gearchange and pedals (1969 car)

I would like to remove my gearshift assy for a refurb.....my engine and tranny are still in position....manual suggests that the gearshift wont come out unless engine and tranny are removed....is this really so?

Also, is the throttle pedal really only "held on" by rubber?....has anyone modified theirs using a hinge at the base of the pedal or even constructed a throttle assy with a top pivot (i.e a throttle pedal hanging down from under the dash)

Hi Adrian,

You won't be able to remove the shifter rod with the gearbox in place, but you can remove the shifter and guide bushings no problem. You can also remove the rear coupler assembly, replacing the bushings in this assembly greatly improves shifting.

The accelerator pedal does bolt to the floor through the rubber base of the pedal, this is how it was done at the factory. There are some aftermarket 917 / RSR pedals available...around $180, which are a metal unit with a mechanical hinge as opposed to the live hinge as standard. Not sure of any hanging pedals available for the Accelerator, I think Andy Hass fitted an aftermarket hydraulic brake and clutch setup on his 911R which may have hung down...have a look through his build thread.

thanks for that....i stripped the throttle pedal down more and realised that there is a metal hinge embedded in the rubber moulding, mine had rusted and sheared off, so i'll just cut off the integral hinge pin, buy a small stainless hinge and bolt it on to pedal and floor

also stripped the clutch and brake pedals to find no bushes at all!
