Price for 2.0 911S Engine?

As it says, any idea what I would have to pay for a 2.0 'S' engine complete for rebuilding?

I've been offered a 1967 'S' LHD, complete except for wheels (running on some American jobs) and the engine. It's a full restoration job, although the structural work has been done (in theory, but we've all heard that before, and see three badly welded plates over the rust holes ).

Also would the rebuild costs be hugely higher than the later engines?

Finally, what would opinions be on a '67 with a 2.2 or 2.4?

Hello, Barry.

The 2L S is an easy engine to build in fact.

Any early 2L engine will do..if its a T you get the S sized valves, if its an L you get the counterwieghted crank..

Of course you do not get the nitriding..

Then its just pistons and cams..the usual.


I would definitely keep it stock stock apart from oiling mods..sc pump etc.
Do not evn think about a 2.2 etc..throwing money away..
If you do the work yourself and pay yourself nothing you should be able to get the engine done for 4-K from scratch..doing it right...

I f you pass on this one, please let me know..I may be able to use it..

A 67S would have had an alloy cased engine, the Ts and Ls were from the 68 MY and mostly had mag cases. I have both an alloy cased 67S motor and a mag cased 68S motor available, either for less than £4K

Thanks chaps: pretty much the sort of thing I was expecting. Its a huge shame that the engine was stolen from the car: as a consequence the owner is completely disheartend and has given up on it.

The owner's in no hurry to sell, and I'm the only one who knows it's available (i.e. its not advertised) so I can afford to hang on and see if any other prospects become available.

Nick: I'll give you a ring at some point to chat about your available options, and see if you can convince me on the merits of an early car! (My first choice remains LWB really).
