Post by Bootsy »

I know it's only Thursday but....

There's people setting off tomorrow via Ferry's and we know how we like to build up and record our prep (mechanical woes!) etc.

So......

I have already done my prep and tested the car for any issues. A little 1050 miles run from the south of France to Oxfordshire. Does it qualify?

Towards the end of last week I drove to the other side of Oxford and back.
It was a very hot day but travelling in a targa with the roof off is rather nice.
However as I got into London I became aware of an unexpected noise which at first I thought was the heater fan but I gradually realised that it was the fuel pump.
I ordered another one from KMI and today I fitted it.

It was a a bit of a performance as the new one was much bigger than the old one.
I made the mistake of trying to syphon with a ‘jiggle syphon’ which I couldn’t get to work so had to resort to suck it and see using fuel pipe.
It took ages to drain the tank.

The good news is that it starts and runs ok and it doesn’t seem to leak.
Tomorrow I will put some more fuel in and see how it holds up.
Hopefully I will be there on Saturday.

No DDK Live thread would be complete without a few trials before we get there or during!

Be good to see you jb - fingers crossed

My 911 is 'race-ready' and taking it to the hill tomorrow lunchtime, get all the numbers etc on it and take it from there Saturday.

Will any of the Tee shirts etc be for sale on the Sunday in the DDK area if there are any large ones left?

Hope to meet some new faces on Sunday. :)

This was my engine

Back in the car on Wednesday, carbs rebalanced and running sweet apparently. Thursday went for a final test run before I collected. Oil warning light came on, sounded rattle. Unfortunately nothing obvious so engine back out and looks like the case will be split to find the root cause.
