Connecting two ring terminals?

How do I connect to electric ring terminals so they can be undo? I've considered just using bolts and insulation or maybe a box as in the photo. I think box in the photo is too heavy

Box will not be that heavy at all...............or join the two terminals together, with a nut and bolt, having put a suitable length of heater hose over one cable before you join them, and then slide the heater hose over the join to prevent any contact with anything else.

It's the positive return from my new 6v alternator and the red light gauge wire. Both in the engine bay

I realise that you want the option to go back to original, but ….

Do you have enough length of wire to cut the rings off, butt splice & seal them now, and replace the ring terminals if/when needed

Without having to modify the existing wiring/terminals & allow future reversal, in the past I've used a short bolt/machine screw & nut then insulated the joint with a couple of layers of heat shrink tubing.

I want this for a beside the road fix. I haven't decided yet if I'm going to buy another alternator or rebuild the generator as a backy
