Classic Technical Certificate.

Post by mycar »

Have we had this already ? :)

I was reading an article about Porsche documentation and how the much maligned COA is being replaced by the PPS (Porsche Technical certificate) and the CTC (Classic technical certificate).

The PPS looks to be about as useful as a COA and won't include engine or gearbox numbers.

From What I can tell, the Classic Technical Certificate is only available in the US at present. You pay $500 and take your car to a participating dealership and they provide you with :-

Validation of matching numbers at the time of delivery with the current data
Knowledge of how your classic Porsche vehicle was originally equipped
Helpful information for a restoration project
Providing the vehicle data when selling
Review of the vehicle data when purchasing
Assurance of all available information about your classic vehicle
Validation of your own researched classic vehicle information
To understand more history of your classic vehicle
To be aware of the current state of your classic vehicle
Professional pictures of your classic vehicle which document the vehicle condition
The opportunity to repair failed test points during the technical inspection
High-quality and clearly laid out folder which presents the results
Document which can be displayed at events
Personal conversation with your Porsche Classic Partner

I presume in time this will be rolled out to the UK.

I've had a letter and a book from Official Porsche classic centre Leeds and they are doing the same thing, it doesn't give a cost of it but it looks like it ties you into servicing with them too so that equates to lots of ££££s.

Oh joy, a new Porsche tax.
I think Ferrari does something similar?

Sounds like a lot of marketing drivel to try and pad out the fact you are getting very little for your £500!

Porsche Classic marketing drivel is pretty intense at the moment.
I find it particularly annoying for their remanufactured parts, some of which are good, others of which are total rubbish. All carry Porsche tax and all are claimed to be an exact reproduction precision engineered by the only true experts blah blah blah.

I think proper Porsche marketing is much more sophisticated; nowhere near as annoying. Perhaps the Classic group are deliberately being 70s German in their approach... go into the office and it's all men in check suits, smoking... Classic!

That's low-key marketing, right there .

Agree you can't beat a Kardex, but only available up to 1969, per your signature, I believe? It's great to have the option, thanks for providing that service.
BTW if you've had a few customers via DDK, and haven't done so already, please do consider donating to the house charity: https://www.justgiving.com/ddk10kfor10years/

It seems that they don’t believe their own hype. Several OPCs buy CDI boxes from us now. I guess being half the price of a ‘genuine’ unit might have something to do with it!
