Bye Bye 348 - Hello GTV!

Post by stuarts »

Well, I've done a deal on my 348 and taken a very nice 1974 GTV in part ex.

The latter GTV's aren't my favourite, I do prefer the earlier 70's Juniors, but this is an ex Californian car in exceptional condition and very well sorted with all the nice Alfaholics bits.

That looks great, what's the spec and what sort of use do you have planned for it?

Interested to hear how you get on as I keep thinking of going the other way and getting a 355!

It's got all the usual Alfaholics bits - the lightweight 'race' adjustable suspension, 45% lsd, half cage - but ready to fit front section if needed, not too hot engine, GTA wheels, rebuilt gearbox etc.
I have a real soft-spot for 105 coupes, I've had loads in the past.
I think I'll get this set up for hillclimbs and some road rallies and general hooning around the lanes :)

It was recently featured in a Greek classic car mag

A long standing hill climb friend has just sold his tweeked 105 after 30+ years of love affairs with classic ALFA's; he still has a tear in the eye.

Infectious cars it seems. His was fitted with /Harvey Bailey suspension and a bit more, but the car looked great doing Prescott hill, as close you will get to driving a county lane to yourself.

Yours looks great, get it ready for 2021! :)

Too late for toe-dipping into hills this year, but 2021 will be different.
Suggest a drivers' school on a hill near you, there are many around the country, or just do the right thing by DDK and Just Do It!

Alfa looks great, but I quite fancy a 348 - it's a good-looking car and I like the it's-not-as-good-as-the-355 status and price point

The 355 is a face lifted 348 with the steering feel removed. £5 says in the future it’ll be the 348 that’s preferred.

I agree.

Having driven a few 355's & 348's, a well sorted 348 feels so much nicer to drive.
I also think that the 355 styling is a 'sanitised' update of a design that was fresh and quite innovative when new - and will ultimately be looked back upon as boring compared to a 348.
