Hi!
The time has come to let my 914s go. I had big plans but a lack of time, space and funds means I need to move them on to someone that can get them to the standard they deserve.
So what have I got?..
First is a ’74 car with a ’79 3.0SC 6-cyl CIS motor. It’s got some really nice parts on it too..here’s a pretty comprehensive list:
911 3.5 Boge struts with Koni Red inserts
Alu S Callipers (PMB Performance)
#170 Rear Springs w/ Bilsteins
Tarett Sway Bar Black Edition
Elephant Racing PolyBronze arm bushings
DWD Oil Tank
RX-7 external oil cooler, Mocal thermostat
Elephant Racing GT oil hard lines with adaptors
PMS firewall shifter bushing
SS tunnel fuel lines
19mm Master Cylinder with brace
16x7 Fuchs (no curbing but need a refurb)
Mittelmotor /6 Stub Axles with early 911 rear hubs
VDO Petrol Gauge - silver dot
250KMH Speedo - silver dot
Druck/Temp gauge - silver dot
Momo Prototipo Silver steering wheel
Early /6 rear view mirror
Euro Rear Lenses
Cibie driving lamps
Engman Fuse Panel
Early Rear bumper
Pedal cluster and trailing arms refurbished by PMB Performance
Maddog /6 motor mount (/4 mounts removed)
I have a spare /6 3.0L engine wiring harness (somewhere!)
I bought the car pretty much as it is today and haven’t changed much other than sorting the headlights, horn and windscreen washer to get it through the MOT and registered when I imported it back in 2015. Essentially I bought the car for the motor and all the really nice bits it’s got. This is a fun driver - it's really fast, brilliant fun, handles like nothing else and would blitz a similarly powered 911 - it has everything it needs but it’s just a bit tatty on the outside. The paint is really sun-faded so I don’t wash it - I think the paint might wash off! There are a few rusty bits on the exterior body too which need fixing if that was what you decided to do - but the great thing about this car being originally from California is that underneath it is really really good. The battery tray is perfect and original and the hell-hole has had some small repairs but really nothing major was required.
So what else?…
Like I said, this orange 3.0L was going to be a donor car. I have another ’74 car, stripped and largely restored. I planned to make a GT Tribute that I could track on road/race tyres. The shell is fully stiffened - it has a Longs Stiffening Kit from Maddog installed, all of the chassis is plated where it needs to be. The suspension mounts have Tangerine Racing reinforcements installed. I’ve had it on a rotisserie and all of the rust has been cut out of the chassis and completely restored. Some sketchy hell-hole repairs have been sorted properly, the 4-cyl motor mounts are gone but it needs a 6-cyl mount to be installed. All the holes for the oil-tank have been drilled. The paint has been stripped to bare metal EVERYWHERE underneath by hand (what a job). I have stripped the engine bay, front boot and fuel tank space, also the entire underside of the car too. It’s now primed with 2-pack epoxy primer which is pretty bulletproof. Had I continued, I would be on to the exterior now - stripping the exterior paint and installing the steel flares I bought from Restoration Design. All of the work I've done is extensively documented on a blog - see the link to that in my signature below (there are some pics of the 3.0 also on that blog).
Here’s a list of what I have from the original car and parts I have invested in over the past nearly 9 years - at least everything I can remember (there maybe more hidden away I’ve forgotten about)
’74 Body Shell (with welded stiffening mentioned above)
Rotisserie
2.0L 4 cyl motor - been sitting for a while so I would expect needs rebuilding (not original to the car)
Carbs (can’t remember make)
901 Gearbox (still fitted to motor)
Complete workings and bits of the original 4-cyl car (brakes, suspension, wheels, headlights, seats, fuel tank, bonnet, boot lid, 2 or 3 engine lids in all, US tail lights, dash, dials, switches etc etc.. all bagged-up and carefully labelled)
Steel Flares - Restoration Design
2 Scheel Seats : not a pair - need restoring - one of them I think is called the 914 seat and is a slightly slim fit! The other I think may be earlier and is more generous - both will be really nice and totally period.
Early 911 3.0” front struts and rotors
Later 911 3.2 Carrera 3.5” front struts, rotors and callipers (I think they still have the callipers on))
914 Dashboard : as new and complete
Lots of original steel body parts sourced from Bruce Stone in the US to complete the perfect body!!
Fibreglass rear bumper
So..price..I'm open to offers but anyone wanting to take the lot will have priority. I don't want to start selling off individual parts so please don't ask. If you only want to driving car then I will consider offers after I've exhausted options selling everything together. So for now, I will price it as one sale.
I know I have to submit a price but it's hard to value all this!
How about everything for £22,000.
But of course I'm happy to discuss offers, so get in touch and let's talk. I don't always get message alerts from DDK so please email me directly if you're interested and I will send a multipage PDF with lots of images as it's easier than posting images directly here.
