RHD 914 with 3.0l 911SC engine

Post by andytat »

Sadly it's come to the time where I need to sell my 914. I have it advertised on Pistonheads for £29,950 but for a quick sale from a DDK member I will accept offers based on £25,000

I have copied the pistonheads add below and as you can see a lot of money has been spent on the car over the years. It is by no means a garage queen as it was built to be used and has been driven regularly all of it's life and with the spec it has it's a seriously fun car to drive.
Iv'e posted some pics below the add but if you would like more info or pics drop me a line.

The Advert.

1975 3.0l Porsche 914 Registration no JHU 487N
According to the Letter of Origin from Porsche Cars GB JHU 487N was manufactured in September 1974 as a 1975 2.0l fuel injected model year vehicle.
It was built to C16 (UK) RHD specification and was delivered to Porsche Cars Great Britain who commissioned Crayford Engineering, http://www.356-911.com/modelinfo/914crayford.htm, to carry out a RHD conversion. It was not registered in the UK and as DVLA hold no recorded UK registration details from this time It is believed that the vehicle was exported to Australia where it spent the first five years of its life. In 1980 it was exported to Singapore and given the registration number EM 9008S. The last registered owner in Singapore purchased the vehicle in 1994 with a view to building a fast road car for Sunday drives in Malaysia with the fledgling Porsche Club Singapore.
He entrusted RUF Singapore to carry out the upgrades which consisted of the following works.
A good used 3.0l 911 SC engine and gearbox were sourced from Patrick Motorsports in The USA, who fitted an LSD to the gearbox and reversed the crown wheel and pinion to allow the engine to operate in a mid engine configuration. Patrick Motorsports also supplied a complete exhaust system and a set of PMO carburettors were purchased to complete the power plant conversion. A replica 914/6 GT oil tank and a 911 RSR style front oil cooler were installed . New oil lines were made up from Goodridge steel braided hose and connected with Motorsport screw connectors.
A 914/6 GT chassis stiffening kit was fitted as per the factory race cars and 914/6 rear hubs to allow 6”x16” fuchs wheels to be fitted to the rear trailing arms. The 914 front suspension was replaced with 911 steel axle, A arms, Bilstein struts, 911 front hubs, turbo tie rods and a big brake conversion together with a 19mm master cylinder and braided steel brake lines were fitted. All rubber suspension bushes were replaced with black Delryn bushes.
The interior was treated to a 914/6 style centre console with auxiliary gauges for oil pressure, oil temp and voltage. The instruments were swapped for a 911 electric speedo, to suit the SC gearbox and a 911 tachometer.
The 914 was enjoyed in this form for the next 18 years until 2012. By now the car was due some TLC and had the following works were carried out by Flat Six Road & Race Engineering (Singapore).
The engine and gearbox were removed and the cylinder heads were taken off to replace all cylinder head studs as there were several broken. While the engine was apart a new set of piston rings were installed. At the same time the owner wanted to make the vehicle more civilised so the carburettors were removed and the original CIS fuel injection system was refitted to the engine.
At this time the gearbox was also stripped, inspected and reassembled with new synchros as well as having a full complement of Wevo upgrades including a side shift kit, a gateshift and a 915 classic shifter, see below links for details. https://www.wevo.com/Products/Transmiss ... eShift.htm

The aftermarket front brake system that had been fitted 18 years previous was showing signs of its age so a new pair of Porsche Boxster callipers were fitted together with new 3.2 Carrera front discs and the master cylinder was replaced at the same time.
The suspension was getting very tired and the plastic bushings were getting too noisy so Elephant Racing polybronze bearings were fitted front and rear as well as new rear trailing arm pins.

New Bilstein front strut inserts and rear bilstein dampers were also fitted.
The owner also decided that a change of colour was in order so the 914 was painted Saturn Yellow and treated to new rubber seals all round and new or refurbished chrome.
Since 2012 the 914 has been used regularly and has had the following works carried out.
By year:
2012: New clutch fitted
2014: A chain tensioner failed and it was feared that the engine may have suffered bent valves so it was removed and the top end dismantled to check. All was good so the valves were lapped in and the engine reassembled with new pressure fed chain tensioners.
2014: Fit new clutch cable.
2015: Service and fit new battery.
2015: Fit new fuel pump relay, change door lock.
2016: Service
2017: Service, fit new spark plug leads, distributor cap, rotor arm and spark plugs as well as a pair of new drive shafts.
The current owner purchased the car in late 2017 and shipped her to the UK where DVLA issued the registration number JHU 487N.

JHU 487N Comes with the Porsche CoA (Certificate of Authenticity, the Porsche LoO (Letter of Origin) and a comprehensive maintenance history dating back to 1994.
This is a very unique 914 as there are not many RHD examples and it would be virtually impossible to find one with this spec and to build one would cost a small fortune. A very comprehensive maintenance history file is present with the car which shows the care and attention that has been lavished on the 914.
