I dont have the original.

The Maestro loved 050 dizzys! Why are you unhappy? Does it have a case iron body? However, you measure the advance at different rpm? I would suggest doing a full service and setting the max adv to 34/36. If you are unhappy with the advance curve send it to Bruce Smith sparking plugs to get remapped to 022. However, I'm not sure it will make too much difference. The other alternative is to put a 123 electronic in. I have one in my 912 and it works very nicely.

I like the look of those! I got an email back from Benton yesterday and he's not doing the RSR 0012 any more.

Mine car has an 050 and runs really well, what is the issue with yours?

Andy Prill was always a UK distributor of rsr0012s, maybe worth a call in case he has any in stock.

Cap doesn't fit good, and it's a Brazilian cheap copy. Seems a bit random to get the timing right.

Perhaps a new cap may help? Maybe it has the wrong cap fitted currently?

What do you mean by seems a bit random?

Are you timing at max advance (30 degrees at 3000 rpm) or static timing?

Lots of information here

http://forum.porsche356registry.org/vie ... =1&t=39341

From Bruce Smith

Harry Pellow (AKA the Maestro) provided instructions for installation of a JFP4 9230 081 050 into a 356/912 engine. First note that the 050 distributor is 90 degrees offset from an original Bosch BR18 or 022 distributors where #4 is placed at the normal #1 position. Here are his instructions, with just a few minor changes. You can also find more information about the 050 and distributor types on my web site at http://www.sparkingplugs.com/4.html

***
"Follow these steps to install the 050. NOTE: steps 1-2 assume you have a stock BR18 or 022 distributor that you are removing and replacing with an 050. Thus, before you install your 050, you need to first determine that you have the engine at top dead center on #1 cylinder. This can be done by popping off the right hand valve cover and watching the valves on #1 [right side, furthest forward cylinder] as you or an assistant rotate the crank pulley till both valves are closed and the OT notch on the crank pulley is lined up with the timing mark on the engine case):"

1. Crank engine to TDC on #1 Cylinder. Pop off cap. Confirm by looking at rotor, which should be at 5 o'clock position and pointing to 1 Cylinder (Right Front).
2. Loosen clamp. Disconnect distributor wire at coil. Remove original distributor. Preserve.
3. Is Chord Cut-Out of distributor drive perpendicular to axis of car, and narrower part pointing towards the REAR of the car (the muffler)? If so, Good.
4. Install seal on 050's shaft. Lube with oil/WD-40. Install .050. Rotor should point to 7 o'clock position, and you should feel the "klunk" when it slips in to the drive gear. Rotate 050's body until the notch in distributor body is underneath notch on rotor.
5. With OT Timing mark notch on crank pulley 1/4" to the LEFT of the timing mark on the Third Piece, (that's about 5 degrees) rotate 050 until points jusssst begin to open.
6. Snug down clamp bolt.
7. Hook up wires in cap, knowing that the firing order is 1-4-3-2 and you're at #1.
8. Hook up wires to coil. Fire up and adjust high speed timing at 33 degrees. Idle should be at 5-6 degrees. The pre-gapped points are at .016-.018".
