Its a red, Series 1 Peugeot 106 Rallye and it is a cracker, the body is in excellent condition (albeit in the usual multishaded Peugeot red after 23 years), its done 99003 miles and it has a box full of documents, the guy I bought it from (a Porsche nut with a Paul Stevens fondled GT3) bought from another Porsche nut who'd had it in a collection for years and it hadn't been driven, so my guy did it all to it, cam belts, stainless exhaust and manifold, tyres, brakes etc, etc, all the receipts are there from Pug1Off (the guys apparently) and it drives brilliantly. When they say firecracker in car editorials it makes me feel a bit sick in my mouth, but honest to God, this thing is like a snarling, slightly mental Jack Russell, my God its fun and so, so fast, really up to 60 its really quick. The little thing puts out 100bhp standard, and weighs like 700 odd kilos and it bloody flies, but then show it a roundabout or a twisty road and it goes absolutely bloody bananas. It is brilliant and exactly what I wanted, something i could drive the wheels off and have some fun in without worrying about the value like I did in the 911's and I do in the 912. And it covered that brief perfectly, if Julia was in better health (and matching mood) she would love it and I would keep it, but that isn't going to happen, so its going.
As I'm £500 up on the deal, so there will be a special price for a DDKer, it is advertised elsewhere for £5000. I just would like my money back on it. With it comes the steering wheel I bought for it and a set of brand new old stock decals for the car if you want it all one shade of red and made perfect.
It makes a fantastic noise, would put a smile on the face of a dead man and they are going up in value. But who cares about that ? In Porsche world, I have spent more almost on a full set of rubbers for my '79 and this, let me tell you is a million times more fun than that. Evo did an article on the best ever Peugeots, the 205 Rally car was number 1 and this was number 2 or 3 I think, its honestly the most fun car I have ever driven and it will be a sad day when it goes, but go it must.
I'm working down in Bath at the moment and the car is at home in Harpenden, so I have no photos of it, other than the one I took in McDonalds the day I bought it, perfect location for a photo of one of these. Its now dirtier, no question and the white wheels (yes they really do look that cool, bizarre really) are, well pretty black with brake dust. Hells bells its fun.
Buy it, have some fun, sell it back to me when my wife is better.
