Guaranteed Insurance Values - Requirements

Post by 964RS »

It's that time of year again so thought I'd start a thread where we could list different companies requirements to insure and what they need for Guaranteed Value policies.

Me first....

RH Classic

Car has to be over 10 years old
Accept modified cars without issue
No requirement for alarm or immobiliser

For guaranteed value they simply need a letter confirming value from someone who is knowledgeable in Porsches such as your local independent dealer or service agents etc etc

If you add yours I'll update this first post with all the insurance companies in one place and their telephone numbers...

I suspect RH Classic are RH Specialist Insurance and your insurer is probably Hiscox?

My house ins is arranged by a v helpful girl at Bluefin in Southampton - she arranges insurance for my two cars through Hagerty - who also place my insurance with Hiscox, so I think my requirments are the same. The have always accepted the value that I put on myself without question - requests for current photos. I was with Groupama previously, they did get twitchy about the 911 without an immobiliser, but Hiscox haven't raised it. I really don't often recommend people, but Carla at Bluefin arrnages our house insurance with Chubb and the classic cars and is very efficient. I have not had any claims for the cars (yet!). Details below - or obviously Hagerty can be found on the net. I suspect you cannot go to Hiscox directly (but they own RH Specialist Ins).

Chubb - via broker Symmetry Private Insurance
For my 993 and 69 car (not for moderns) agreed value is stated in writing in the Schedule, and is updated each year (or more frequently if I want) to be what I say the car is worth. No further evidence required.
I presume they run it past an underwriter and if I were really far from the norm they might query, but that hasn't happened to me yet.
Of course if you insure for more, you may more premium...
Cheers, Richard.

Hagerty:

1971 911 2.2T LHD
1968 912 LHD
1960 VW Beetle Karmann Cabriolet RHD

Letter of valuation not needed, but agreed valuation which seems appropriate from their own records on file.
Pictures of front/rear/3/4/ inside and engine bay area.
What miles you want to have for the insured period.
Picture of current speedo reading.
No modifications.
No tracker needed.
No alarms needed.
Have to be garaged when not in use at home, but no restriction on this when out and about. On Holiday or travelling in Europe.

Very good service over the past 3 years and all on a joint policy, with reasonable excesses - around £250 for each.

No body as yet has mentioned excess on policies which can be a bit of a deal breaker?

I assume a picture of the tachometer reading is required for all limited mileage policies? I don't have one in two of my cars..

Not with RH it hasn't been. In fact they don't even ask the mileage...

My rh policy has an endorsement applicable section which says that they will not pay unless the vehicle is at
A/ your own place of dwelling
B/ address that it us normally garages or an address specifically agreed by us
I called them as I wanted to leave a car somewhere else for a few days and they said I would not be covered I asked about going away in it for a bit and she said not covered unless they agree it.
Maybe I got someone new maybe it's true but seems a pain in the backside if I have to tell them every place I am going to leave the cars if I am on a road trip.
I will probably email it at some point to double check but it might be worth keeping in mind.

I understood that to only apply to parking between the hours of 22:00 and 06:00 when in close proximity of either your home or your garage. Maybe my policy is different to yours?

I believe with RH, once vehicle is over a certain age, then there is no mileage restriction (I seem to remember being told that when I renewed a couple of years ago)

As Jason says, I'm sure that isn't the case with my policy either.

Good to know ;)
I doubt one of them is "over a certain age" unfortunately but I'm buggered if I'm putting a tacho in the car! also, it will do 1/2 its annual miles on track so not sure what it would tell them anyway...

If you're on limited mileage and you had a claim they'll just look at your mot certificates to check you're within you limit

there's no odometer on either car - there's an hour meter for the engine but that's total since rebuild and you need the right interface to access that info (plus it has no time log other than hours accumulated)
I'm not planning on scamming them in regards mileage I pay for vs. use, I'm just not sure how the insurance company can tell what mileage I've done

TBH I used privilege for the last few years on non-limited basis (well, 15k miles split between cars for me, and 15k for my mrs) as they leverage my ncb across all my cars/hers for hers.. has always worked out cheaper overall, than a policy-per-vehicle (4 cars and a horse lorry)

I thought that I'd bring this old thread back to life as it's renewal time on my insurance.

I currently am insured with RH Specialist Insurance on a non agreed valuation basis but with a declared value of £70k. I have just been told that this declared value means nothing and that the value would be decided by the insurer at the time in the event of a claim - so now looking for an agreed valuation. RH have told me to obtain a valuation report from a specialist engineer and to send it in with photos showing all aspects of the car. I do appreciate that a valuation on my car could be a little subjective!

Did I dream it or is there someone on here who can assist with this?

Thanks,
