First band I ever saw live was the Riot Squad including David Bowie before I even knew who he was.

Saw him several times in the next few years & have always followed his career.

A huge loss to the music world but his influence will still continue.

Big influence in my school years... A leaping around to Jean Genie, etc. I was there when he made a surprise appearance at a Mott the Hoople gig in Guildford, to sing the harmony on "All the young dudes" - he was Mott's manager at the time. Loved his never-ending ability to reinvent. A very sad loss, indeed.

Goodnes me, Bowie's Wikepedia page is an extraodinary read, what a life ! One of my earliest musical memories is Laughing Gnome, I remember it being played on the gramaphone in the parlour one evening last centuary. It was the evening I realised that girls were actually quite nice looking things. I think it became a bit of a thorn in Bowies side, audiences shouted for him to play it when he toured as the Thin White Duke and probably plenty of other times too. :laughing6:

Aladdin Sane, so that was 1973. I remember the big boys wearing white makeup with lightning flashes, flappy white flares, platform shoes and ginger hair and that was in Yorkshire. A year later I was getting told off for having the same haircut (darned if I can remember what you asked for at the barbers now) and life had changed forever.

Seems like 5 minutes ago.

God rest ye David Bowie.

Really worth listening to Blackstar which was released on Friday. A dark album which makes complete sense but a great listen

Very sad news. Aladdin Sane - first album that I ever bought. I'd recently been thinking that I need to replace some of my old Bowie albums on cd - now I'd better do it.
