2.0 S spec engine on Ebay and 3 early gearboxes

Post by andytat »

I have a 1967 2.0 S spec engine on Ebay for any one that might be interested.
Here is the link.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/262181893438? ... 1555.l2649

I also have 3 early 911 gearboxes.

1) 911/01 1970 911T gearbox serial no 7107638 unknown condition but was working in the car £1,000
2) 902/1 65-66 911 gearbox serial no 226597 unknown but looks clean £750
3) 901/02 67 911S gearbox serial number 4280319 unknown. The end case has been removed at some point,
inside the case looks very clean and complete. £1,000

All of the gearboxes are sold as seen with no guarantee but the prices are negotiable

Regards

Andy

Is the engine the same as used in the 914-6 ?

No, the 914-6 had a basic 110bhp motor, not an 'S'.

Ah, thank you. Excuse my ignorance but could it be rebuilt as a basic 110bhp motor ?

Yes but, TBH, you'll probably end up paying a premium for the engine as it is an 'S' - and throwing away (well, selling) parts like cams, heads etc. No reason not to use an 'S' motor in a 914-6, though, if you can live with the peakiness of the 'S' cams. Could always tame it a little with softer cams.

My 914 was originally built with a 2ltr in 1974, and raced as such until the mid 90's. It now has a 911T short stroke engine, with S heads, race cams, PMO's and crankfire ignition. The PO told me that it dynoed at 260 bhp ? It was rebuilt by Black Forest Racing in 2013. It is very unhappy on the road so I am spending the winter considering options, probably going to sell the motor and replace with an in period fast road 2ltr 4 or 6. Hence my query about the ebay motor.

Why not change the cams in your existing motor?

Hmmmm, my rationale was that a mildly tuned 2ltr, four, was better from an originality point of view, and better for road use, and that the sale of the full race motor would easily fund the work ?

If your car's already been converted to a 'six', I'd definitely keep it that way. I would venture so far as to say that the car will be worth more (if that's important) as a 'six conversion' than as a stock 'four'.
