It doesn't seem too bad a price to get a 2.7RS-esque experience (apart from the G&T). Looks like it's ok mechanically. What was the bodywork like?

I can help with this one !

Its a very nice unrestored car, no rust anywhere !, all original underseal, and has been very well looked after by its previous owners. A history file about 2 inches thick, includes original service book etc. Lots of interesting period details that have remained undisturbed over the years, which is pretty rare to find as a lot of cars of this period were updated, or colour changed

So 45k with the G&T, about what my old 2.7RS Rep was. Very tempting.

mind you, does a rebuilt motor on new unstamped cases count as matching numbers?

I guess thats a very interesting point. I suppose the original cases are always best, but so many of these magnesium case engines had failures its not uncommon. I think its definately more desireable to have a fully documented build using brand new factory supplied cases, than a non-matching number. Its also desireable to have a 7R case engine that does not leak oil

There is also the argument about leaving the cases unstamped, or having them restamped, I have seen plenty of high value cars with restamped cases, and in my opinion I think this detracts from the originality of the car..

What is nice (and pretty rare) is how intact the gearbox type and numbers are visible on this car, amazing how many cars we see where the 'gearbox has been dragged along the floor- with great force' !

I'd say not unless it has the original cases too?

I fear I'm being thick : G&T?

I've not driven a US Carrera, they say the CIS takes the magic away but I guess that's why Phil is talking £45k instead of £80k and that car does look lovely.

Of course, there is still a way of getting the full, original, factory 2.7 MFI, matching number, ducktailed experience for the same sort of money...

Are you suggesting something fishy with your MFI reference?

Oh.

I'm not in the trade. Though I was once.

Nothing fishy being suggested at all. A 74/5 Carrera Targa is, I think, the only way to get your hands on a good factory 2.7 MFI car for sub £50k nowadays.

Other than theft and I didn't mean that. ;)
