My name is orangecurry and I am a caroholic....
Apologies for my first post being a 'for sale' notice....
Some of you may know me from being a 993 owner, others will be thinking 'blummin cheek'.
Regardless, I am a true 911 fanatic and have been for many years.
Although it sounds like a sales pitch....
My 993 is erm... track orientated. Lowered on TechArt springs, and on Bilstein HDs, it has an RS+5 set-up. I run it on 17s and 18s, depending on when I'm doing my next track day. Bear with me, I'll get to the point.
Buying a wobbly 1980s cab, I was expecting a huge difference between the two cars. I was very wrong.
The Supersport is almost as focussed, almost as 'hard' in it's handling, almost as confidence-inspiring as the 993. In the dry.
Instead of an expected light-nose and wandering steering, it's tight and direct, kart-like. There doesn't seem to be any scuttle-shake.
It's absorbing, but not frightening. I was expecting to have to push much harder to get the rewards, and then maybe be bitten hard by the rear trailing-arms....but the rewards are there, at sane speeds, in spades, with a car shot through with deep character.
The 993 is a car that does everything (for me), but the Supersport is so much closer to this perfection than I was expecting.
So my big question is..... what are the earlier cars like!!!!!!!

If your 993 is set up for track and doesn't feel much different to a widebody 3.2 carrera cabriolet then either your 993 is pants or you are driving them both like a girl!
That said I love your SSE cab and have been very very close to getting in touch. I had a baltic blue one many many moons ago and it was a cool looking car.

Ah OC! Welcome to the DDK fun.
For those that don't spend inordinate amounts of time on other Porsche fora, OC is an active and highly respected member with a quite scary knowledge of, amongst other things, rubber seals and how the 993 rear bumper assembly comes apart!
Still a shame you're selling the 3.2 - it looks stunning.

I'd love to keep the 3.2; and driving it makes me think that the even earlier cars might be even more 'fun' and rewarding to drive at slower speeds.
But do they bite back as hard as their reputation suggests?
My issue is that my wife drives my cars, and in all weathers. I'm happy that the 993 will not do anything stupid on a wet day in November.
Can the same be said for the early cars?

I've found you have to be really driving like a nutter and beyond to make a 911 step out in the dry. Even in the wet, provided you are sensible they're docile.orangecurry wrote: But do they bite back as hard as their reputation suggests?

Having said that use one infrequently with old hard tyres and it becomes a totally different ball game then.
Make one a daily driver whether you're male or female, what's the difference.

Apologies - I should have explained more fully - her daily driver is a mk1 Impreza Turbo with the Prodrive pack.
This has very similar performance to the 993, but obviously with a permanent mechanical AWD system.
To swop between them, even on a wet day can be done without concern.
I would worry that swopping between the Impreza and an earlier 911 might be a step too far.
