Wiper Motor

Seems to have the motor on the 'wrong' side of the wiper spindle....i'd expect it to be under the rods not on the same side as the spindles - if you get my meaning!

Can someone add a picture of yours please?

ps engine wont start grrrr. Borrowing a timing strobe and also have to replace a leaking fuel pump. + side of coil is connected to ignition and - to dizzy right??

I always thought the dizzy wire went on the negative side of coil, but may well be wrong. Not wired mine up yet.

The wiper looks rights to me based on the only picture I have to hand at work which is in the article I wrote on refurbishing the wiper motor for the speedsters club magazine, here:-

Paul,
Dizzy definitely on neg side of coil. Have you got the condensor in there? I appear to have two - one connected to coil and one on the dizzy.

yeah thats on it - connected to the dizzy side.

Will check rotor arm and cap etc later just to make sure..

kinda stopped looking when I realised I had a wee petrol leak

Will check sparks too, once the new pump is back in.

Want to try and get it running this weekend before the finishers collect it on Monday.

All the lovely IVA crap is on - mirrors etc. Got some bling tinware fitted and engine surrounds and seal in.

BTW on the brake lights I want to install a high level LED brake light strip in the boot lid. I worry that the standard lights are not great and could easily be missed...crunch!

Now I know theres this 'e' mark rule but if I put in a high level brake light and its not 'e' marked (which none of the aftermarket units seem to be), will this result in a fail or will the tester see that added safety is more important? Alternatively, if I leave it disconnected for the IVA, would they still fail it???

Hi Paul,
hows it going? take Simon's advice and strip the wiper gearbox down and freshen up the grease etc. Also strip the wiper shaft spindles?? what you fasten the wiper arms to... really easy job to do as these do bind-up and strain the motor also giving crap wipers and a FAIL. You will need to adjust the nuts, wind them down as the scuttle panel is thicker being fibre-glass and not steel, so to get the right amount of shaft throught the body to fit the wiper arms

l had a 3rd brake light wired up in the boot lid under the grill, Iva tester never even questioned if it was E marked which it isnt.

Car goes away Monday and spoke to Gary last night about getting it to him mid July ish if it all goes well, for screen fitment, new interior and roof....any views on what colour interior to go for guys? I'm thinking very light/ivory or a tan colour to go with the condor yellow??

Lots to do but this weekend I will go hammer and tongs to get as much done as I can ready for collection monday. Its almost there tbh.

Only really need to refit engine cover and sand down the edges to get the grill in. Might try to set up the timing and change plugs etc too.

I'm hoping Arden can get it completed and tested in 6 weeks tho...

How long does it take to get through the DVLA registration appointment?

Registration process from my experience took about a month from inspection to road tax on your doorstep.

I managed to register a car and get a tax disc the same day as my last SVA. Get everything in order and plan ahead and it shouldn't be a hassle.

Do a search on pistonheads for a long thread in the kit car section on 'Murtaya' Arden, i believe used to be build agents for them, and i remember lots of discussions about the service received from them - not necessarily bad - i can't quite remember, but worth a read.

I have no idea on whether they have take a speedster through but they seem to have a good resume and have done cars that were pre iva. Will have a detailed chat on Monday when they come up.

I want them to complete and test but Gary to re-finish the interior and fit hood and wipers etc..

They offered to do interior but would rather go with a pro who runs his business around speedsters. Gary also is held in such high regard on here ... and the shite i've had so far with paint - I'm not taking chances now.

I want it finished so that its safe and the final detail shines through.
