Carrera Decklid Options

Post by Little b@st@rd »

What are the options for fitting a Carrera deck lid to a Speedster or Coupe replica? I'm aware that Karmann Konnection do very nice replacement lids and top skins in aluminium, for a price. I assume fitting a ali top skin to a fibreglass lid wouldnt be possible? Does anyone sell fibreglass replica Carrera deck lids?

Thanks in advance

Dan.

Oh good, they exist at least. I'm not ready to buy right now I'm trying to work out a budget for the project and im trying to find out what cost what etc. If Gary or anyone else could let me know how much they go for that would be great. Cheers!

I don't see why you couldn't bond an ali skin to a GRP frame. Probably c. £1200 to make one from scratch to fit.

Karmann Konnections do an alli Carrera engine lid for about £600 if you asked them they would tell you if it would fit

i think for a nice looking car (and ignoring my paint costs lol!) you'd be looking at between £12,000 and £15,000 for a nice looking car and that depends also on whos body you use... thats where I'm heading but that will be a completed car with interior by Gary, hood and electric screen.

Engine is 1641 twin port.

Anyone else want to add to this??

Sounds about right. For a coupe budget nearer £20k It isn't a cheap project.

Yes, much what I was expecting, it's going to be a very long term build. As for the lid, I will ask KK when the time comes as I'd prefer ali, even if it's just a skin, as always finances will ultimately decide, I'd be happy with a grp Carrera lid if the price is right and the quality is there. I've pm'd Gary so I'll see how much he wants? Anywhere else sell them? (I don't mind importing

I've lost count, but then if someone told me how much it costs to get married, l wouldnt have bothered  . Even when you finish your build you still keep going adding bits and changing things.

I bought my car as a built one thinking that if I did a self build it would cause so many arguments in my house it wasn't worth it! I would have wanted to spend every spare moment in the garage doing the car and the wife would want me in the house to talk to her, whats all that about?? Also the build cost was more that buying a ready built one! (I paid £15k for mine I thought it was a fair price!?)
The only thing I didn't plan for was the engine rebuild I had to do last year  that added a tidy sum on to the cost of the car and the other cosmetic things I planed to do to it have to wait for now :(
When I am looking at all your lots cars and some of the excellent tweaks and extras you have all done it dose inspire me and the list gets bigger by the day
