tax exempt

Post by mally914 »

How do you find the date your car was manufactured as i have heard of people with cars registered in 1973 that have proved it was manufactured long before it was registered and they have qualified for tax exemption thanks guys ,

Hi, you will need to get in touch with Porsche at Reading to get a certificate of manufacture, think that is what it is called. That will have all the details of the car on it. What they will need is the VIN number, not sure what they charge for this service now.

Certificate of manufacture

I spoke to Porsche at Reading recently about same - cost is about £60

Was a bit shocked at cost - but if it saves excise duty then it's cheap !

You can tell when your car was manufactured by looking at the Karmann plate, nr. (4 cyl cars only)
The first two numbers are the week. ( ie looking for 31 on) The third is the day of the week. (1-Monday, 5-Friday)
My '73 2.0 was manufactured on the third week of January, so missed out. :( 4732912344

From memory I rang them up, asked them if they could tell when an old car was manufactured from the VIN, they looked it up online and said. I then asked if they could send me a letter with the details which I then sent to the DVLA. This was maybe 10 years ago but there was no charge.

My '73 was built in October '72, result!

£60 is steep, but a good investment
