1972 911 Updated to 80's Turbo Body, To Be Backdated!

As some of you will have seen from the marketplace discussion, I recently purchased this 72 911T that was advertised on Ebay

I have now owned the car for 6 weeks and work has now started as follows:

I contacted porsche in order to obtain the original spec of the car and I must say they were very helpful and gave me all of the information over the telephone for free (stating that I could have it in writing for approx £60)

I was shocked to learn that the car was originally delivered in Germany as a LHD and at some point has been converted to RHD (Its a good job I didnt pay anywhere near what It went for on Ebay!)

With this is mind my plans have changed from restoring back to the original spec however I am going to restore it to back to LHD and in the guise of a 2.7RS replica (albeit with the 72 oil filler in place)

The car passed its MOT last Friday with relative ease with just two small patches of welding required and is now in the process of having the original 72 'K' registration put back on

I have stripped the interior already and once I have stripped the exterior i am considering having the car dipped and e-coated at Surface Processing Dudley? and would appreciate any feedback of any experiences that anyone on here has had with them?

Also will need help with uploading pictures! and what is the best site to use?

Sounds like a good project!

I use photobucket for pictures, really simple and they list the links under each picture so you can jut cut and paste them into your post complete with tags.

Once you have uploaded them paste the 'img' line into your post




I've heard good and bad about getting cars dipped, I believe it is key to brace the shell, especially if it is quite rusty.

Just a question:
Why do you want to go back to LHD?
My 73T is an ex-German car I bought as a rust bucket (and then some) in 88.
I drove it in LHD form for a couple of years and then convered it myself to RHD using new Porche dash panels.
That was in 1992.

The car is so much better to drive in RHD in the UK!

Club autosport used to cut-out the LHD dashes and convert to RHD years ago. The RHD panels I bought new were LHD panels, cut and gas welded back together as RHD (by the factory).

Beware of the bulkhead where the smuggler's box is.
