Hi from Switzerland

Post by Pda75 »

Hi to all the members,

I am in the process to buy a 912 from the '67.

I looked for this car for many months and I finally found one which looks the right one. It is a Polo red 912 and it seems to be very original. I asked a pre-purchase inspection from Strasse in UK which highlight no rust and some small and other more concerning problems (e.g gearbox dump).
Request price is 13.8K and for what I have seen so far is quite reasonable.

What do you think?

ciao

Hi and also welcome. Is your 912 RHD or was it imported into the UK from the USA.

MFK test

Post by s west »

Get ready for the fun of the MFK test (Swiss MOT) to get it registered in Switzerland. They failed mine as the exhaust had been welded - a rather neat job that looked like it had been done 15 years earlier so it had to have a new original Porsche item. Then they insisted that my garage stamped the engine number on the case as they could not find an engine number (which of course is where all engine numbers are).
Would be interested to meet up when your car arrives

Hi Steve,

I am already scared about the Swiss MOT.

Please, let me know if you know a good garage around Basel.

Regards

Hi Pier

I was just reading in the esses mag (USA forum mag) about a garage in Basel that specialises in early Porsche and Merc's it give it a good write up although I have no personal experience or connection.

Hope it helps, and welcome to the forum.

Hi Pier
I use Merkur Garage in Allschwil. They know their way around the MFK - they bolted a catch tray onto my rocker covers to catch the oil that would have other wise dripped onto the exhaust and would certainly have meant it failed.
Before you buy, just make sure that the model of car was sold in Switzerland and it is original. They will check nothing for safety and everything for originality (even the offset of the wheels and tyres sizes). The good news is that if you can get it registered as an oldtimer you only need to do the MFK every 6 years.
Have fun
