MFI fuel pumps .... has anyone got an alternative ?

Post by hot66 »

MFI fuel pump .... are there are any off the shelf alternatives to the original Porsche pump ?

I'm trying to find either an original or an aftermarket one I can put in my spare parts / touring box

Hi,

I have a supply of original Bosch pumps that are very similar for the MFI cars. A few mods are needed but they are bosch and fit well. Original ones put out 1 bar while these are .8 but I have used them on several of our resto cars. I should have some more soon, I sent my last one to Bob Watson last week.

This is one of the pumps we use and is now fitted to a 73E. They are a close match to the originals (which have been NLA for some time) and als people are selling for crazy money (IMO).

Is it possible to rebuild an old MFI fuel pump?

Yes, I have done a few myself, but I am sure there must be a specific company that can offer this service.

Alan .... as I'm looking one to keep in the car 'just in case / get you home' , will it be a straight swap over with the original ?

Both Vic's 2.4S and my rally ST replica use pumps supplied by http://www.kmipetrolinjection.com. I replaced the twin pumps as in Alan.UK's post above, which gave endless problems; leaking, blowing fuses and giving insufficient pressure and flow. Fitting the KMI pump even cured a low speed running problem!

There are several fuel pumps listed among the 'New Editions' parts available again in the Porsche Classic section of the Porsche web site. Don't know if yours is listed or not.

James, I was talking to Mark Waring at Husborne Crawley last Saturday about this very subject. He told me that he is going to be bringing something out to replace the pump very shortly, will be about £550 mark though...
I've emailed him to let me know when they're ready.

James

Have you got your brother looking for one for you?

Three for sale on this thread so far it seems without takers (although it is quite an old thread there is an email address)

Regards
Mike
