Someone please stop me 911T

Post by vroomvroom »

I am strangely drawn to this car (like a small bird with a broken wing)

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1972-Porsche-911_ ... dZViewItem

With a view to turning it back into a near concourse 1972 911T

Am I onto a hiding to nothing

What should I budget (full works, new paint, wings, bonnet, rust correction, engine rebuild, gearbox rebuild, re-instate interior, suspension overhaul – the whole shooting match)

I started at thinking £8k would be about right but I now think £14k may be more realistic – or could it be more like £20k :pale:

I would have to get most of the tricky stuff (paint, engine, gearbox) done professionally

Please talk me out of it !!!!

I'd be thinking £20k+ if you plan on getting it done rather than doing it yourself.

You can see rust on the inner wings, front and rear, so who knows what else?

If you were a keen DIY man then maybe, but I mean really keen! :)

In short - it would cost you far more money to return this to concours condition than the car would be worth in the foreseeable future !

Some of the parts you would need to track down & work that you would need to carry out:

Front & rear wings
Bonnet (& possibly slam panel)
Engine lid & grille
F&R bumpers & trim
Rear no plate panel
All exterior anodised trim
Headlamps
Front side/indicator units
F&R lenses
Driver's door mirror

Rust eradication
Full respray
Full set rubber seals

F&R seats
Carpets
Steering wheel

Wheels & tyres

Engine detailing (& possible mechanical work)

Gearbox rebuild (?)

Susupension & brake overhaul

Electrical work

etc, etc

You could always go for a partial backdate and go for a kind of incorrectly arched RSR thing!

Personally though the picture of the battery tells you everything you need to know about the condition of the rest of the car

As the Irishman said when giving diections to a lost tourist; "well I wouldn't start from here"

You will need front wings, bonnet, bumper, rear quarters, engine lid, rear bumpers and number plate panel, plus probably doors, front suspension pan, inner wings, floors et. etc. That's nearly £10K in panels alone. You need weeks of welding, prep and paint. A new interior (seats, carpets, door panels, steering wheel etc. etc). Enggine and gearbox rebuild and rims and tyres. Try £30K plus for a professional job.

What are the wings from? The arch lips look really thick.

If you buy that I'll personally come round to you house and put a hole in your head.

Hopefully that's enough to prevent anything further damage to yourself.
