I was really looking forward to this and I'am very sorry to say that I too must cancel as a close mate is getting married that very weekend. Just let me know if there's some kind of cancelation fee of any sort.

2013 DDK EURO TOUR - THE POB TOUR - 12th - 16th JULY

Post by hot66 »

Sorry things have been so long to be finalised , but had a few problems to sort out regarding visiting the factory  .... anyway, all sorted now so hoping to have all prices etc very soon.

Once these are announced you'll be able place deposits and reserve your places.

We've got there 8) . I've been liasing closely with Brian , suggesting what we want etc & fitting the tours around his routes etc. Personally, I think the pricing is sensible. Once you take the crossings off , it works out approx £95 / night ?

I've copied & pasted the final details below.

Please note, the booking web page will go live later this week. I will start a new thread with all the booking details etc. A deposit will be required ASAP once the page has gone live

VERY IMPORTANT : THE INFO BELOW REFERS TO THE MONDAY ONLY. IT DOES NOT EFFECT THE SUNDAY TRIP TO THE MUSEUM OR ANY OF THE OTHER ACTIVITIES. PLEASE DONT MOAN TOO MUCH AS YOU WOULD'NT BELIEVE THE GRIEF I'VE HAD TRYING TO GET THE FACTORY TOURS ( AT ONE POINT A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO WE WERE SUDDENLY INFORMED THEY WEREN'T GOING TO HAPPEN !! )

FACTORY TOUR : There are only 30 places available on the Porsche Factory Tour. These are going to be allocated on a 1st come basis as dictated by the previous original list on this thread. I'm trying to be fair so I have made the decision that 1 place per couple is available for the factory tour. The exception to this is where 2 DDK members are travelling together in a car. I'm hoping this will be OK as it will give the majority of the car mad attendees a chance to see the factory workings whilst your less bothered other half's something more interesting to see & do elsewhere. WE ARE GOING TO ORGANISE AN ALTERNATE ACTIVITY FOR PARTNERS FOR THE MONDAY AFTERNOON. If anyones partner specifically does want to do the factory tour please let me know as I can add them at the expense of those lower down the list.

;) : There are 40 places available on the ;). Again 1st come 1st served allocation , but based on the original list everyone & their partners can attend this tour. If your partner or yourself don't want to attend, please let me know.

Anyway, back to the important details :

Over the past couple of weeks Caroline and I have been reviewing hotels and driving routes for the first part of the tour. After a couple of false starts we have selected a location and hotel that, we think fits, the bill.

We have chosen Baden- Baden for the first two nights of the tour, as it a good sized town with a mix of bars and restaurants. It is also gives us a good starting point for the Saturday drive to Freudenstadt along the Schwarzwaldhochstrasse (L500).

For the Saturday drive we have also found a place to stop for lunch and a suggested route back along the side of a dam with an afternoon stop at Mehliskopf where there is an all weather bob run (on rails).

For Sunday, Caroline has found a route that takes in the old Solitude race track (Early 1960’s Grand Prix) and a 2.5km long tunnel on the Motorway before arriving at the Porsche Museum for Lunch and an afternoon in the Museum.

On Sunday and Monday night we have gone with the Golden Leaf Hotel at ZuffenHausen, which is close to the Porsche factory and has sufficient room availability and parking to accommodate us all (we did look at driving out for about an hour on the Monday night, but felt that being so close to the motorways for the journey back would be more beneficial).

For Sunday evening we have found a large restaurant/sports Cafe that would be able to cater for a large group, if required. It is about 2-3km from the Golden Leaf, so we are still looking at how we can best get to and from there.

Monday we have kept free for the ;) and Porsche factory tours. Caroline is still looking into an alternative for those that do not want to take the tours.

We have assumed that most members will want to stay on the Monday night and then drive back on Tuesday for the overnight crossing. We have also priced two options returning via Calais for those who would prefer to drive home on Monday night or late Tuesday afternoon.

Based on two nights accommodation in Baden – Baden, two (or one) nights accommodation in Stuttgart, and return channel crossings, the prices are as follows:

Hi James,

Please can you add my brother-in-law as a reserve for the tours, he'll come with me if there's space on the tours as these were the main attraction for him.

We appreciate you've planned things as fairly as possible and wouldn't want any DDK member to miss out so obviously only if you can.

Cheers,

I always offer, usually somebody agrees to share yet I still seem to end up in a cabin alone!

Did share my room with Petric in Nurburg last time though and I don't snore as loud as he does!

Happy to share mate, us poor watch people need to keep costs down - plus no-one can be as loud as Russ
