Castle Combe tomorrow! (Saturday)

Post by Mike »

Just spoken to the circuit and at the Classic and Sports Car action day tomorrow at Castle Combe there are still track places available at £30 for 15 mins. Just turn up with a helmet.

Don't know any more other than there is a 100db nosie limit.
cheers, Mike.

Mike, I may well see you there in the morning. You may have already been on these days before but it can be a bit of a free for all on track. Don't expect the usual track day discipline you get with experienced drivers. In any event, have fun!

Hi Mitch, look forward to seeing you there. I posted this thinking this might appeal more to people at £30 a go, as the Silverstone Classic trackday at the end of July which I posted in future events at £260 (a good deal) no one seems interested in.
cheers, Mike.

As the weather is nice I think I'll pop over the bridge for a bit - would be good to see other DDKers too.

I'll be there with the "Speedsters Club", Chesil, and at least 20 other speedster replicas. Please come by and say hi.

Based on last years track activity, i'll just be participating in the paced laps (plus it means I don't need to pass the noise limit.... which I won't!)

Great day at Castle Combe! 7am start on a beautiful morning drove down with 3 x 5 litre GT40's (GTD's actually) 3 abreast on the M4 at one stage. Passed the 100db sound check, which when I asked what the meter read, the guy said 100 and winked

Looked manic on track but just wanted to try as I had'nt driven the circuit before. Took it slow and let a couple of nutters past (a 5 series beemer alpina B something and a ford XR4i with a dustbin for an exhaust, and 3 feet of flames coming out on the over run) then just found loads of space and learnt the circuit, good fun but really hot in a full face helmet. I can see why people talk about Quarry corner.

Met up with Ian Gunney and his mate from over the bridge in Viv land, really nice 912, and Simon (shambly) and his amazing speedster, all looking forward to Le Mans Classic.
cheers, Mike.

Mike - your car looked absolutely fantastic - as you say some of the driving was a tad questionnable - bit too much of a mixture of cars (and driving ability) out there....

Paul Calderbank and I both enjoyed the trip over - I forget how poor the ventilation is in the 912 until the sun comes out like yesterday!

Mike,

Good to meet you - sorry I had to rush off. Will make sure I get a closer look at your car at Le mans.

A few pictures from the speedsters & spyders club (to which I also belong) stand...

The display..

The track got crowded at times as Chesil's driver found out...

Good, but short, piece on the day in this months Classic & Sports Car magazine (Sept 06, page 179)

"Replicas Steal Limelight at Action Day"

...Speedster - The Club stole the show with a dazzling group of Chesils....

My car happens to be in the foreground of the picture they selected :P
