Until you have a good idea what has failed, you are stuck a bit.
Basic investigations like comp tests etc will reveal a lot, but you need a garage with some good knowledge.
The local garage; can they point you at such a place more local?

I suspect language will be a problem, but maybe google search for shipping-by-road vehicle transport people?

Going to be very expensive whatever route used to get the car back, but a professional shipper will/might be the most reliable.

Can't offer any advice but really sorry to hear this Neil. There is always a solution to this, but its not always there immediately when we need it. Maybe now we are in a working week some leads of Porsche specialists will be forthcoming. Fingers crossed.

Lots of feelers out but it appears to be quite dry here for air-cooled experience. We have been zip wiring. The organiser was kind enough to ask his friend who had a T1 VW engine but no luck.

Just spoke to the garage. Car ok. Then the RAC and we should know in the next 2 days.

We have rented a car. We had to travel to the airport to pick up. 66 euros for 5 days! They up graded us to a bigger car. I wish they hadn't. As Google took us down a very tight road with inches to spare Image

Car ok means not stolen or damaged. Unfortunately, it's not under cover

May be worth checking the valve clearances to see that nothing is broken and that the clearances are roughly correct to check that the valves open and fully close

The breakdown people has agreed to transport the 356 home. What a relief.

I bet!
Good going though. Do you have time to run the rest of your route, or just sprinting home?

Unfortunately, we cancelled it days ago. We couldn't get a car rental to pickup in Croatia and drop off in France. We are flying back on Friday.

Not the trip we planned but Split is a wonderful place. Mountains 20 mins drive and wonderful beaches. The Palace is breathtaking. I will be interested to hear Brendan's take on it

Yesterday we took a Ferry to Brac (50 mins) and rented a scooter. I was very pleased to give it back (with no injuries)! It's quite strange for a biker to 1) for the motorbike to be heavier than you so not being able to control it with your hips 2) to have someone on the back moving in a different direction.

Today we travelled 40 mins to see a cave. Then Kliss Fort (GOT location but not worth paying to go in). Then an Olive Oil museum with an oversized gift shop at the end. Finally Stobec Beach. Lovely.

Love to read your annual trip report. So sorry things haven’t worked out quite as planned. I had an issue in Germany
a couple of years ago which thankfully could be resolved with a part swop in time to make the run home via Belgium in time to catch the ferry as planned.

I think your missus deserves a medal :) Mine would have found it far too stressful!
