Flat cornered washer bottle.....
A detail I've not yet tackled and wonder if anyone can help with information on the washer bottle fitted to the RS?....
....these were different in that they had one flat corner....

...to me it seems illogical that Porsche would have made these flat cornered washer bottles for so few cars and I'm not sure for what reason this would have been done so were they made for any other reason, fit etc or maybe a one year production item only? I'd love to know if anyone can shed some light?
I doubt I'll be able to source one although hopefully not too difficult to fabricate. Any further details would be much appreciated?
Many thanks,

Re: Flares....
Could it not be as simple as a weight saving play on internal volume? It would only be grams but then so many individual changes were…

Re: Flares....
Is it not just the standard 68-73 washer bottle that someone at the factory took a hot iron to it and just pushed one corner in to reduce capacity?

Re: Flares....
Way back I used to have parts rotationally moulded as these water bottles were made, a lot of money to tool one and we were making them in batches of 1000..
Must be from a parts bin in 'VAG' surely?

Re: Flares....
Thanks guys - I doubt any weight saved would register on the scales so would be surprised if that reason and would think space/fit is more likely? It does seem to be the standard bottle and hope it's as simple as using an iron to recreate.
As Graham says, not easy to produce unless in numbers and why not just use the standard bottle off the shelf as it fits?
Strange but no doubt there's a reason and hopefully somone can provide the answer.
Cheers,

Re: Flares....
Or maybe, just a hot air gun, with not too much heat and see if it does push in on itself, its only plastic, but whether the newer bottles have a different polymer construction, so you might be better off trying it with an old damaged container first to see if that works?

Re: Flares....
Looking at photos of the earlier 2.8RSR when the washer bottle was still located in the front slam panel, it could be these were fabricated by the race department to allow space for a spare wheel on a 110 litre fuel tank. I think the angled part is in the correct place.....this would mean the washer bottles on 3.0 cars were simply carried over from the earlier 2.8 RSR.
Will see if I can find any supporting images.
