Hi,
So the car is over 40 years old,
The car is Taxed online and when I took the V112 to the post office the lady hadn't a clue what to do with it. She said if I was applying for Tax I could declare it exempt and historic and change class.
But because I was paying online i couldn't apply for this.
Now the MOT has run out, but the car is insured and taxed ongoing. Is it still legal to drive.
some of the DVLA documentation suggests that you declare MOT exemption in regards taxing the car and changing it to historic.
"You don’t need to apply for an exemption to stop getting an MOT for a car that’s over 40 years old. However, you do need to apply for a vehicle tax exemption to stop paying road tax"
On the DVLA tax and MOT lookup it shows two green boxes - taxed till March 2026 and a green box in the MOT saying no results returned.
on the MOT history lookup - red box MOT Expired.. Less red here would be good.

When I declared one of mine the post office staff didn't know what to do either, after I persisted they found the correct answer in a manual stored behind the counter. I'm pretty sure it has to de done at the post office so you may need to give them some help!!!
