SC Crank swap to 3.2

Post by ROSS79 »

Not sure if this has been answered before
I need to replace the 3.0 SC crank & conrods & have options of either a stock 3.0 SC or a stock 3.2 Carrera
I understand the throw of the SC is 70.4mm while the 3.2 is 74.4mm
Question - is there a 'standard' conrod available to use with the 3.2 crank or do I have to go 'bespoke'?
I have 100mm barrels & pistons, currently giving 3.3ltr, both cranks are the same cost + I need rods anyway
A 3.5ltr engine will be a 'no cost' upgrade.
Thoughts & advise welcome

SC and 3.2 little ends are different sizes, so if you can use standard 3.2 crank & rods (I don’t know), you would need new pistons as well
'79 Targa - restoration now mainly complete & being driven

and now CIS to EFI

Isn’t this one of the options discussed in the Wayne Dempsey book? (I know he talks about a 3.5 but can’t remember how he gets there)
The simple things you see are all complicated
I look pretty young but I'm just backdated yeah

the 3.2 crank will need to be off-set ground to the SC Big end size and SC rods to get the 3.5lt engine, what size piston pins are fitted 22mm or 23mm, if you have the 22mm pins, the small ends on the 3.2 can be re-bushed to 22mm??

would be quicker just to put the GT3 crank in and take it to 3.6lt, this will have the knock on efect on the rest of the engine, heads, cams, intake, exhaust

It all looks to difficult so planning t0 go with the replacement SC crank, new Carrillo rods & stick with 100mm Mahle MS barrels / pistons & the twin plug heads. I'll take the opportunity to upgrade the cams to DC60 spec.
Thanks guys
