Vintage is addictive!
This has been keeping me busy recently, 1925 Renault MT. At 8hp, thoughts of 55mph are a pipe dream. More like cycling without the effort. Totally addicted!

The classy cars at Prescott where indeed really nice.
I could be very tempted when the time with the Lola and 911 is up.

Would like a 1930 Ford Model A 5 window coup, but a Ford Pilot V8 also appeals with juice brakes and creature comforts.

The '30 ford could be just too slow and end up holding traffic up everywhere we went.

This factor is the main fly in the vintage ointment.

I quite understand your thinking. The plan for the 319 (when the engine is back on song) is to lengthen the gearing/ add overdrive which should give a top speed closer to the motorway upper limit. The engine is very torquey.

V8 Pilots are brilliant. I wouldn't discount a 'fat-fendered' Ford either. A boy two villages along from me when I was growing up daily drove a '37 woodie in the summer. It was RHD as well, so I guess a Canadian import?

Agree, the Pilot would be idea for me and mine plus a few fiends too.

Not too expensive for a really good one...

Some news on the engine damage on my father’s 36 Frazer Nash/BMW. Not pretty.

Quite honestly, the cause of catastrophic oil loss sometime during my M5 journey to Prescott and back is as yet unknown. I saw no smoke, and there are no traces whatsoever of oil residues on the chassis. Anyway, after a full strip down and check the plan is to build back better, balance the engine, then test and run it in on the dyno. Engine lining work to be done by KMB Engineering ..Trying to avoid having to sell a Porsche to fund it. Vintage car life.

Ooo ! Not pretty, and certainly not what you want to see. As long as there’s no broken parts and all recoverable, just put down to experience. Best of luck with the rebuild.

Thanks for your condolences Tim and Thomas! As you say - put it down to experience. It was due to do a magazine shoot in late August, but that’s postponed for the moment. Hopefully it’ll be ready for a French trip in October.

Ouch, seen this before on white metal engines, but horrid.
Trust the crank is ok.

Total oil loss in dribs and drabs or sudden?
Sudden would be all over the chassis etc as you say, so 'total-loss' problem maybe at sustained rpm.

Should all come out in the wash.

Car looks to be in the right hands from that garage shot.
