Just on the off chance (and this is all very confidential for now !! - Note to locals ). In approx 1 to 2 years from now ..... I'm going to move (long story - not required here !). Opportunity for an unusual property will arise - would NOT suit 95% of the population , and probably not sensible for someone elderly ... which of course I am not.
Rural , quiet location / on 5 acres of land (est 350 yards off quiet country road) - most of which are covered with the 2500 trees that we planted in 1991 / workshops 2 - one for cars (4 post ramp and 3 phase electricity on site) , other for ?? (600sq ft approx - own power / heating system , well lit , waterproof floor and drain) Garaging for approx 10 to 12 vehicles (car size) , in 4 locations ... which are together in 1 lump but separate entrances / original horse walk (google it) / separate potential granny flat. House - original was old (pre 1834 - first OS map has it) - no idea of actual age - rebuilt by me (and people !) over 4 years from 1989 to 1993. Extended to about 2500 sq feet , well insulated , underfloor heating , drip feed Esse in kitchen , etc etc. Located in Co Antrim , about 2 miles from Whitehead - 20 mins to Belfast . Neighbours either moo or bleat. I have NO IDEA what it is worth !! .... low ball guess £0.5 Million , High guess £1.0
Nuff said for now , not on market , and not about to go on market ... I like to plan ahead. PM if interested (seriously interested only please) and I will give you info to look at on google earth. PS The Pizza oven will be left behind !

Re: Anyone planning a relocate to N Ireland , Car collector friendly house will become available !
Update on this (and sort of an advice asking question too !!!)
New house now bought - all of 1.9 miles away from here. Our house valued by 2 different estate agents - both lots scratched heads a lot - no "real idea" , since everything is different to what they are used to selling ! Bottom line conclusion - list it for somewhere between high £400's and low 500's and sit back and see what happens . (there appeared to be some sort of Postcode ceiling to value .... and irrespective of what I was selling , it's never going to get to, say £800 K !!
I counted up garage space - room for 14 cars at a pinch (I think I peaked at 11 ?) - so Q : How do I find (preferably 2+ !!) people who would be interested in such a place. South of England would have this at many Millions ! Is it worth an advert in one of the classic car magazines ? ... or do I need to just trust the power of people searching on property sales websites ??
Opinions please .
Plan is to put it on market in Springtime (whenever that is ?) , but I would need to be planning soon , if I wanted a magazine type advert (I think)

Spooky, just read your post while watching Sandi Tocksvig’s Woodland Restoration thing on C4 and they were talking about a horse walk through the woodland

Hmmm ... not sure that's the same thing ? (Mine is a raised circular area (stone surround) with a geared mechanism in the centre. Horse is attached to centre by a long steel arm ... and simply walks round and round - driving a gear wheel - which in turn drives an underground shaft , through a shed wall , which can drive all sorts of stuff inside said shed - usually a grinding mechanism of sorts (corn , barley ....))

Ahh. It’s not then - this was a walk for a horse to drag trees which have been felled

Just my $.02: This set up and your description sounds very good to me. Im comparing the market value of this to what normal homes are now going for where I live, and frankly, anywhere in the Western US. Yours sounds like a bargain. One thing that would prevent me or someone like me from picturing themselves there is trying to figure the fixed costs. Can you say what the cost of property taxes and utilities and any other such costs might be? I also think doing what you are now, namely talking to like-minded folks, is a great start. If I was in your situation I think I would start doing the same on MB, Jaguar, Ferrari, etc forums and see what kind of responses you get back. Showing pictures would generate interest too. Good luck.

Can do - having said that , the fixed costs are very very low (my opinion) . This is probably simply due to lower property taxes (called Rates here) , due to the house's country location. The only truley fixed cost is the rates bill , I paid £2282.41 (sorry for the precision) last year. All other things like electricity , phone / broadband / heating oil are variable depending on use .... but it's a cheap house to run , due to use of "free" wood for heating , good insulation (inc things like under the floors). The engineer in me has all the figs , so easy to share : Electricity : 1770kWH last year (27.939p per unit) , oil : 1260 Litres in 2024 - about 58p/litre , phone and broadband £30 / month , gas - only cooker , £130 for 2024.lbpa18 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 10, 2025 3:31 pm Just my $.02: This set up and your description sounds very good to me. I would be amazed if many on here used less than our 148kWh / month average electricity consumption !!!
