Carpets in lwb 912's, 911T's & RS 'Lightweights' were Perlon which is the lightweight 'felt-like' material as used for the under-bonnet carpet pieces.
'Salt & Pepper' is the term used for the more expensive, thicker 'velour' carpet supplied as standard in the lwb 'S', RS Touring & some years' E models - it's referred to as 'salt & pepper' I think as it's dark grey with flecks of white.
