Door Trim

Post by timmyboy »

Basically my car's door trims are a mish mash from 74(or later) and SC bits. SC pockets which are blue, nice, and the later door handle and pocket flap section etc, all of which don't fit particularly well.

I know these things can cost a small fortune to replacements but I wondered if anyone had anything or knew a way of trying to it get back to nearly original?

Mittlemotor in germany has all the door parts new get your wallet ready though for example the small map pocket at the front of the door is about 360 euros.

The other alternative would be to go for the lightweight style door cards that dont have the pockets and bulky door handles, if you like this look it could save you a packet.

If the door panels themselves don't have the correct black basketweave vinyl (same as on the dash inserts), you can get this from Southbound trimmers, which would be a good start without costing much.

For the armrests, door pockets etc I'd get down to the Husbourne Crawley swapmeet on 22nd April and you may be lucky with at least some bits. Its always a good DDK day out anyway 8) .

If not then there are trim items on ebay now and again to piece it together....

The easiest option is to some RS style door panels. The kits you can buy come with everything you will need to give it a “period” look. I have just finished a car I am working on and fitted RS door cards and will try and get some pics for you if needed. If you want the original fixings, it will cost a more ££. Door pockets (good ones) command high prices, you can buy them new from Porsche but the numbers are scary  you can find the other bits on evil bay. Don't buy old knackered door cards though as it is easier to make your own and cover them in basket weave material (which your car should have).
I think I saw your car once when it had the original recaro sport seats in it. Shame they were removed

Thanks Alan,

I'll stick some pics of my doors on when I get a chance. I'm probably being a bit silly, but I'm trying to get it back to as near original as I can. These SC bits look naff.

Yeah, that was my car, scruffy paint. Shame those recaro's arn't in it, these seats are knackered! Should be picking some new ones very soon.

Hi,

There is nothing silly about trying to get a car back to original, people spend thousands, even tens of thousands of pounds trying to do exactly that. Let us know how you get on?
