plastic rear screen

Ive come across a plartic (acrylic) rear screen out of an old race car, in amazingly good condition. Would anyone know what this is worth as the owner has no idea, and wants it to go for a fair market price. Thanks

Hello, James.

I'm about to make one..so itn would be worth 50 quid to me not to have to bother.

Most folk reckon the newer polycarbonate ones are stronger..but they are more demanding to bend..they have to be dessicated before heating..

Don't know who supplies them in the UK but for reference new ones - 3/16" formed acrylic - are available from Spektr in the US for ~ £150.

As far as I know, Airedale now only do the polycarbonate ..

Which is I'm assured much better, but also more spendy!

This is where I get perspex form..about 20 GB pounds per sq metre for the 4mm stuff..

A word of warning, i use acrylic and polycarbonate alot through my work. Acrylic is lovely to work with, you can sand/polish out any scratches. However it will break if you smash it hard enough.
However although polycarbonate is virtually shatterproof, it will mark if you run your finger over, it scratches so easily and you cannot polish them out. Go for acrylic everytime.

We used to use Polycarbonate on our Rally car but it scratches so badly we have given up and now use acrylic with an Armourfend coating on the side widows to prevent it shattering in the event of a roll.

I don't think this is needed on rear quarter and rear screen and would stick to acrylic every time.

We have patterns to cut all windows except the windscreen and have slider kits for front side windows.
