Hi
My 915 gearbox from my 1974 911 is very worn and a friendly Porsche specialist sold me a later 915/61 gearbox. Although this has an electronic speedo feed I was prepared to make do. I replaced the earlier clutch actuator shaft and fork and fitted the gearbox without problem so it is now in the car. My first problem was to find that the clutch cable does not fit the later gearbox. I suspect I can drill a hole in the casing for the cable and get this to fit. Would anyone know if this is right? My second problem is that the drive shaft flanges are slightly a different size on the later gearbox! Would anyone know if there is a cost effective solution to that? I can see the later drive shafts are available online at a very high price.
Any advice welcome.

Re: Problems fitting a replacement 915 gearbox
Many years ago I also installed a later gearbox and had to purchase different input flanges and driveshafts. There are a number of 2nd hand driveshafts for sale on Ebay that should fit from an SC. I also have an early style clutch cable attachment which is an attachment to the gearbox (see attached photographs). Hope this helps.

Re: Problems fitting a replacement 915 gearbox
Many thanks Ian.
Since my post I see that there is a new product out which gives me just the later 6 bolt cv joint and flange. Tempted to get these but waiting to find out if the splined shaft remained unchanged after 75. Hoping someone will k ow the details.

Re: Problems fitting a replacement 915 gearbox
Having found that the 108mm flanges on my driveshafts do not fit the later gearboxibought and tried to fit the later 100mm flange. These have six 8mm bolts instead of the earlier 4 larger bolts nd two dowels. Even though these new parts fit the gearbox unfortunately they do not fit the existing driveshafts. It seems that Porsche reduced the size of everything including the shafts (approx. 3-4mm smaller it seems). As a result I now need some later SC driveshafts complete.
If anyone has some second hand at reasonable price please let me know!
Hoping that these will bolt straight in?
