lower door sill seal

][/img]Can anyone advise which way around the door seal on the sill fits?
Is it with the long flange on top so it covers the metal strip or is the short flange on top with the metal strip being covered by the ribbed mat.
i have looked on line and people have used both methods.
Its over a year since i removed it so grey matter is struggling to remember.

It seems that any way i try it i still have the door not closing.
The door is set correctly with even gaps and flush to the front and rear wings so it cannot be adjusted.
I have loosely put the seal in both way with and without the metal strip. In each configuration the bottom of the door is still binding on the seal.
Whilst restoring i manufactured and fitted new sills and i am wondering if i fitted them slightly too high so seal will not go fully into the groove.
Does anyone have a stripped car without the seal fitted who can measure the height and depth of the groove between the sill and the bodywork.
If i have mucked up i am going to have to thin out the seal somehow to get it in further so the door to close.

If I read what you are saying correctly, the larger part of the strip is viewable from the top.

I have included a picture from when I did my own a few years back.

The Seal may be hitting the Bottom of the Door Card - Remove the Door Card and try it

The recess for the Rubber seal may not be deep enough (A fault occurs with Repro. Body parts) - If this is the case try shaving (grinding) away the rear of the rubber seal

Check also that there are no lumps of weld etc in the Seal recess - Grind them out


These are the reasons that a car should be Dry built before paint - particularly ALL Rubbers

Thanks for the reply. my thinking was that it was the longer side on top.

Now got the door seals in and the door closing but had to back off the lock receiver slightly so that the door is not totally flush with the body. reading the forums it seems most people have this problem but it eases up after a few months and then i can reset.
However this is without the lower door seal fitted as it makes the door almost impossible to close. I agree that the new sill is too far out so will shave the seal to get it back further.
