Golf Rallye

Having sold my Golf Rallye last year, I realised the error of my ways and bought myself another one today!

Perfectly restored to totally original condition, really looking forward to having it delivered next week.

( apologies my recent posts seem to be mainly non Porsche related! )

Awesome, that would be a boyhood dream fulfilled to own one of those.
Remember a local garage had one for sale years ago for around £5k, before I could get to look at it it was gone.

how do they feel on the road these days ? Obviulsy modern hatches have redefined quick, but is the rallye a fun drive like a GTI ?

Good looking in a Germanic way! Always fancied one but heard some parts were very expensive and hard to find so skipped.

I've had three Rallyes, great cars to drive - prefer them to the Lancia Delta Integrale I had, similar FWD / Rally derived but German build quality. Built in 1989 it's easy to forget that they're thirty years old ! I'm sure the new hot hatches are far more proficient and efficient ( a bit like a new 911 ) but not as interesting to drive and certainly don't have the character that goes with the older cars. I'm quite into "hot hatch" style cars that are a bit quirky, I also have an Alfa SZ Zagato, an Abarth 595 ( modern)and a classic Fiat 500 ( built to Abarth spec') and in the past have had ( as mentioned) Integrale / Clio V6's etc. I think there's only about 65 Rallyes registered in the UK and I'm inclined to think that when it comes to originality my latest buy is up there with the best !
By comparison with similar cars of the era ( Cosworth Escort / Sierra, Integrale etc ) they seem to be undervalued. Great cars !

I seem to have a bit of a stock pile at the moment, a problem I never thought I'd have when I bought my first car, a Morris Minor for fifteen quid some years ago !

Yes great cars. My Rallye was that colour. Don't think its the same one though as mine had the Recaros and rear headrests. Every now an then I think of seeking out another but fear my memories may be rose tinted...
