I’ve a mind to photograph my local hairdressers to show how idiotic that comment is. IMO the Boxster is Porsche’s best sports car for the road.

Anything later is always better in every respect, so when you buy an old car, you’re making colossal sacrifices financially and in comfort, reliability, safety and performance. Therefore I think it’s worth taking stock every time you do it.

Well it was supposed to be a light hearted comment not to be taken too seriously.

I guess you could say it was idiotic but then it seemed a little idiotic to recommend a Boxster to someone who was looking for a 912, clearly two completely different vehicles, both with their own pros and cons but in my mind if you’re looking for a 912 you want that raw and pure driving feel, not something a 964 or Boxster could provide.

Like you say new cars are better in every way than old cars, better performance, reliability, comfort safety etc and that’s great if that’s what you’re looking for. There are however plenty of people who still crave old noisy, slow, uncomfortable and unreliable Porsche’s and I’m pretty sure that this forum was created to cater for these people, otherwise it wouldn’t be called ddk- the club for classic 356, 911, 912 914, and replica enthusiast, it would be called the Boxster forum or the 964 cabriolet forum.

I’ve been buying classic cars of all types since 1963, my first and shortly after I got my licence, was a 1946 Austin 16. I’ve probably had getting on for a hundred and that includes Aston’s, E Types and more. A few stand out as great drivers despite their age, but always moderns are an easier and better driving experience, especially Boxsters, which as are as “visceral and exciting” today as 911s were in their day and much more than, IMO, 912s or my 356. This is why I thought my point worth making.

I loved my 987 because it was special and I’m completely blown away by the improvement that is the 718. However I respect that this is a 356/911 forum, but felt free to mention one of my moderns because others do.

Sorry if I was over sensitive about hairdressers cars though it won’t be my first. My Bentley S1 Continental’s previous owner was Vidal Sassoon.

We all love our own cars for different reasons, mine is missing two cylinders in the eyes of some but I love owning and driving it.
