Anyone know this original 1958 RHD 356A

Post by Garfield »

After ten years of ownership, I'm embarking on the restoration of my 1958 RHD 356A.

I brought it back to the UK in 2008 after it had spent some time living in the United States. Unfortunately it managed to do its rusting before it left these shores. It was sold by AFN back in the day. Originally silver but painted blue badly leaving the distinctive silver arrow bonnet.

Anyone recognise the car ? I have the VIN number but can't track down the original registration number. It was involved in motor sport in the 50's and 60's (I found pit passes under the seat and someone fitted a sump guard at some point) so someone must recognise it !

All help gratefully appreciated.

Looked at that down at Roger Bray's... Plenty of work to do, then!

What events do the pit passes relate to? Track? date?

I’ve seen some photos of a GB reg 356 doing the Circuit of Ireland back in the early 60s will see if I can find them

Mike Smith is the man who should be able to help. He has the original AFN records and will do a search for a modest donation to his charity.

Hello MikeB, 50 WMX is my car now, how nice to see it in a period photo. Do you have any more photos of the car? I did indeed buy it from Ireland and brought it back over to the mainland, Scotland this time (It was an original AFN supplied vehicle too, hence the Middlesex registration). sadly I was unable to keep the registration number when I brought the car back so it now sits on one of those ugly DVLA period registrations. The car is still running like a dream, in fact was just out and about on Friday for a photo shoot for Autocar which is being published on 4th April.

Any other photos / early history of 50 WMX would be greatly appreciated.

I should add it's a 1959
