Hi all, new custodian of a '66 912 that was sat in a field in Alabama behind a warehouse for quite a while.

I love OG paint/patina stuff, so this is how she'll stay on top just telling her story. Underneath is shot, I'm in the process of stripping at the moment ready to take to Smiths in Cornwall where there is a lot of metal panels waiting for her and they can work their magic.

She's not gonna appeal to all, but hopefully I can learn a lot here.

Cheers

Thanks, yeah I'll get a thread going when something of interest actually happens - just a shell at the moment.

First, document what you have. The VIN is an important starting place. 35xxxx was Porsche Built while 45xxxx was Karmann built; and Karmann had their own body # stamped into the chassis. Paint code will assist determining the year: 64xx are the 1965 MY cars, 66xx are the 1966 MY cars, and 66xx with prefix & suffix are the 1967 MY cars. Lots of running changes in the early years, so knowing when it was built is important. Also be aware that many panels have the last 3 digits of VIN stamped in them. Salvage what you can.
