964- more 911 like
Re: Porsche Purchase
Perhaps push for both... Then you could take a little time to consider... Make sure you don't get it wrong...!

Re: Porsche Purchase
There's likely more difference between well sorted cars and pups, than between the two models these days. A fine example of either, with fresh suspension, and exhaust noise tuned to Sir's taste, is going to be a joy..so, which do you prefer the aesthetics of?

Re: Porsche Purchase
having had a 993 and currently on a 964 .. I prefer the 964 but there is very little in it. i loved the 6 speed box in the 993 & the extra bit of poke it had too. Personally I prefer the looks of the 964 & I think it drives more like a 911 .

964,
Great car tho' the 993 is it looks exactly what it is - the interim between the traditional 911 and a 996.

Re: Porsche Purchase
Both great cars but it's personal preference so you need to see and try both and make your own mind up really....

... All I can add is, I found the 964 is a grower and takes a while to really appreciate , where as the 993 felt good straight away but never got under my skin like the 964 has

Re: Porsche Purchase
I enjoyed my 993. A lovely car to drive. Some of the character of an air-cooled car, but modern enough to use everyday. I've never driver a 964, but been a passenger in my friend's a few times. That has much more of the earlier 911 feel to it.
If I had £50k available and was in the market I'd buy the best 993 C2 I could. I don't have £50k available and I'm not sure I could justify it if I did, having sold my old 993 C2 for £14k a few years ago...

Re: Porsche Purchase
I haven't driven a 964 for years and therefore cant speak with any authority on the 964, but I love the 993's and yet still want to scratch the 964 itch (a simple drive might be the easiest and enough to satisfy my curiosity). There are a few on 911UK who have gone from 993 to 964 and never looked back. The only thing I would say is drive both (I assume you will), I think a well sorted car in either variant will be fantastic, a bad car can be horrible.
To me the 993 still retains the DNA of the older cars but gives you the benefit of years of Porsche evolution, go beyond this and the 996/ 997 to me are completely different cars and lose a lot of what I enjoy about my car. I assume the 964 will be similar to the 993 just a step back in the process. I don't think the 993 has lost anything the 964 brings (reading road tests / reports and speaking to friends who own one) just refines things with the suspension and depending on which engine (varioram or pre-varioram) has a different power delivery.
The biggest issue will be the looks, which do you prefer?
Are you looking at a C2 or C4? I found quite a difference in the feel between my Turbo(4 wheel drive) and C2, much prefer the C2 steering feel.
