912 Engine Numbers ???

Hi all

So, yes, I'm looking at a 912 and I want to make sure I don't buy one with an old VW engine, or a 60hp '57 356 engine !

The engine number is 82989 and the Transmission Number is 237236

Can anyone confirm that these are at least the right year for a '67 912 please ?

the engine no for a 67 car should be 6 digits and according to the Brett Johnson book be in the range 753431 - 756195 or 836611 to 837070

That engine number looks like its a 1600 super (75bhp) from a 356A

Thanks guys, yeah Timo I found that site, what a beaut resource, anyone know the BHP of that engine ? Is it a 75hp or 90 ?

What sort of value would that engine have (recent rebuild but weber carbs rather than Solex

A nicely built 356 A engine will probably be worth more than a 912 engine but not in a 912. The value of the engine very much depends on what was done in the rebuilt / document and by whom. Solex carbs are worth more than weber carbs because they are original. However, since you have a non matching engine that doesn't matter too much. I said in the other thread most rebuilds tend to be done using a big bore kit which increases the cc to 1720 but for your rebuild to be worth a premium you would have to know this already.

Well the donut who was selling it didn't know his arse from his elbow and have completely the wrong engine number. All clear now '67 car, '67 engine. Thanks though all.
