order of work to refurbish fuchs

Have a set of '71 Fuchs on my '73 T. I will be going for the anodised finish on petals and satin painted inner.

I think this is a daft question but I presume the whole wheel is anodised and then you paint the inner surface?

Just checking that the anodising process doesn't effect the surface to the extent that painting is more difficult?

Yes, they are painted after anodising.

The correct refurbishment process for Fuchs is:

Remove from car
Send to Early 911
Flex credit card
Refit to car!

I went through all the DIY options for 10 years before finally admitting this is just one of those jobs that you get what you pay for.

The link you posted - he removes the anodising by stripping and sanding and then polishing and paints. So the wheels aren't anodised (also too shiny IMHO)

If you decide to DIY

Paint strip
Anodise strip (pro job only IMO)
Detail polish rim and petals
Re-anodise clear (pro job)
Mask and Re-paint

BUT with such good service from Nick and others and the associated confidence in the finish not sure I'd choose the DIY option.

Thanks to all for no doubt sound advice. A mix of stubbornness and stupidity means that I will give the DIY option a go on at least one wheel and see how it turns out.

Sladey, aware that those wheels aren't anodised on the link but thought his process for painting seemed sensible!

His process is sound, I'd even gone as far down this route as to buy some enamel paint to give it a go on a spare (cracked!) Fuch.

My fuchs were polished when I acquired them and they soon dulled off. I had them polished up really nice by a pro but as expected with my minimal efforts at cleaning the car and running in all weathers they soon dulled off again. If I was to have them refurbed I would definitely get them anodised.
