When is a Fuch a Fuch?

Hi, I have a pair of 14'x5.5J & 15'x6 'Fuches' on a VW Splittie at the moment, but have no idea how I tell if they are genuine or not?

The 14'x5.5J have numbers/letters on the back on 3 lines begining the first number begining with 901

The 15'x6 do not appear to have these numbers, but have Max Wheel, Load 1580 Lbs, 15x6 & AEW stamped inbetween the ribbed sections, one has something else stamped on the inside but I cannot work out what it is?

Any help would be much appreciated!

My understanding is that all genuine Fuchs have a part number on the back starting with either 901 or 911.

the 14's sound genuine to me, particularly with the 911 part no. 901. Don't think you get rep's in this size anyhow.

Not sure about the 15's you'd need to be looking for the part number again starting with 901 and maybe a little stylised fox head logo? sure someone else can confirm this.

The 14'x5.5J's numbers are; 901.361.016.00 so what does that make them?

So if the 15'x6 have only the stuff I've described, are they likely to be repros then? What does the AEW bit stand for then?

The 'Max Wheel' 6x15's are copies - cast alloy as opposed to forged alloy for genuine Fuchs.

what sort of value would the copies be out of interest? I assume not as much as the genuine 14's then?

14" Fuchs sell mainly to the VW crowd but aren't as sought after as any of the 15" varieties.

A 15" Fuchs copy will usually sell for 1/3 - 1/2 the price of an equivalently-sized genuine Fuchs - without seeing the wheel(s) it's impossible to put an accurate value on them but I would guess at a value somewhere around £50 ea.

I sold a genuine set of four 14' a couple of years ago, good condition little scuffing with good polishing and detailing, average tyres for £460! The guy was putting them on his slammed splitty and want to go lower with em.

I saved half the cash and used the rest to buy a set 16s

I'm thinking of whether to go 14's front & back (hence maybe parting with the pair of 15'?) on my splitty or 14' front, 15' at the rear as was?

Oh yes, MWS replicas look nothing like real Fuchs, they have flatter spokes. Plus they've only been on the market for about 4 months so I doubt they are MWS

Hi, I had a set of three (!) AEW 'Fuch' alloys: they are American Eagle Wheels, quite good quality, I paid £175 (and then got the same) for the three, but they were very good condition.
