Hi all, Just some updates

Hebster - I always try to be helpful Porsche six cylinder sounds sooo amazing, but the real issue is getting a lot of power/ torque through the VW gearbox. The Porsche 915 box may not be has good as the G50 but is a lot smaller and easier to shoe horn in the VW frame.

Got some parts back from the powder coaters yesterday. Reassembled and fitted the 993 pedal box, handbrake and 924 steering column. Did not realise the Porsche 924 steering wheel shaft was so different from the 911. Maybe its from the VW parts bin, I wonder if an early VW wheel would fit?

Hello, Very productive day. Most of the front suspension is assembled. Just need to order front discs, pads and track rod ends which should just about see the chassis together and mobile again Cant wait to get the callipers back and see how they look fitted. .

Track rods ends should arrive very soon, once fitted I can bolt the wheels on and we are mobile again!

Hi everybody,
Fitted the track rod ends and wheels. Its mobile again I hope I don't scratch the rear roll cage and side bars when fitting them. Most likely first fit again when the body is on. Now need to find some hydraulic pipe clamps for the saggy oil lines.

Not sure about the servo. I know you can get a compact remote servo which will fit. Want to get the right feel on the pedal, my heavier 356 Coupe does not have a servo and has a very light pedal. IVA this year? target is to get the body on, boot, bonnet and door panels fitted, engine and gearbox back in, fit fuel tank, electrical work done enough to fire the engine, set suspension geometry and moves under its own power.

Hi, Managed to get a lot of progress on Friday, fitted grp U section around the engine bay and the four wing arches/ extensions. Its now a wide body speedster Really happy with the final look and shape and its reasonably symmetrical.

Started by getting the wing position and shape to fit. Mark and grid to allow the wing to sit flush with body contour


Several trial fits checking dimensions etc


Then used PU adhesive and rivets to hold in place. I will remove rivets before glassing on the underneath
Looking to move the wheels out around 15 mm on spacers to get a slightly fuller arch.




Will need to do some work at the bottom of the wings to body for a better fit.


The rear is on steroids!






Going to work on fiiting the fuel cell then flip the body over. Plan to remove the original body and glass over the old body and new arches to get the correct strength. Also will do some final adjustments to get even better symmetry.

Might not be viable fitting the fuel Cell at this point Greg. Might be best to fit an old Vw tank so you can plumb in an external filler for IVA???

Hi Rich, what do they mean by external filler and not in luggage area? What options do I have? I guess through the bonnet is not acceptable? The tethered cap is simple to resolve. I had hoped to fit through the bonnet with a drip tray underneath that seals to the underneath of the bonnet when closed. Cheers

The IVA rules state that "Fuel tank filling points must not be located in the passenger compartment, luggage compartment or within an engine compartment."
So a filler cap in the wing would be surfice to pass the criteria. Through the bonnet even with it sealed would not pass.

Ger on here did his own version of a wing fuel filler. Maybe worth pm him, unless he chirps in.

Also have have you got a windscreen? If not when you buy one make sure it as a E mark and not a British kite mark. As all glass as to be E marked.

Thanks Rich. If I don't fit a screen to the car prior to test do the wiper drive stubs/ axles need to be removed? I guess they would be an unsafe protrusion? Also I read somewhere that screen/ cockpit heating via the original heat exchangers is not allowed?

Morning

Your right about the heating. If you fit a heater they just state that the heater air intake should not be near the exhaust outlet or draw air in from the engine compartment. So using the heat exchangers will no longer be exceptable. Chesil get around this by fitting a heated windscreen. There is no requirement for cockpit heating just windscreen de-misting. Or you can fit a Webasto heater. You can use a Webasto for cockpit heat and de-misting. This will have be E marked and the installation checked. A lot of ££'a though.

Once it's passed the test, it's up to you if you want to hook up the heat exchangers to get you cockpit heat. How many 911 and Beetles still use this method as long as everything is in place.

So bottom line is, if you don't fit a windscreen for the test, then you can get out of the criteria for de-misting and wipers as well as the washer jets.

Just don't eat to many flys

Hello, Latest update. I have taken a mould off the bottom of the fuel cell added a lip top and bottom and then bonded the section to the body. This should allow the tank to sit lower in the body.

Hi Rich, thanks for the clarification on the windscreen/ heater issue. I should be able to use a wing mounted fuel filler connected to the fuel tank which meets the IVA requirements.
