In a previous post I said I had an 033 distributor, in fact it is an 022 and i think that is what cured the overrevving
The carb issue is to be resolved but I'd seriously look at the RSR 012
Have a look at this thread for a graph of the advance curves between 31, 50, 22 & 12

My only thought is that if you have a reconditioned 22 that is in good condition and still think that you distributor/timing is the issue then either it isn't the cause, or it isn't good shape or consider 123ignition where you can change between the curves until you are happy?

The Dizzy on my car has always been a niggle. The history I have is very comprehensive, i.e. Every invoice back to the 500 mile service in Feb 1967 and nowhere does it mention the Dizzy either as a refurb or replacement so with 140k+ on the clock, Im thinking it would be overdue.

That said there is no play, the rotor arm is snug and the tick over and dynamic timing seems stable so hence the niggle. Anyone know what checks would establish the condition for sure and who can rebuild the 022 type distributor?

I can't recommend as yet but was going to check the condition of mine and try them. However I spoke to them and they do offer to check your current dizzy for £10

I have some more time to do some research and would offer this observation. When my car came from the USA it had a smog pump fitted but not connected. In some threads I have read there appears a relationship with the removal of the smog pump and the mixture.
When the smog pump is disconnected on cars with split shaft Solex p40-11 there is a carburettor plate that had some connection to the smog pump and by removing the pump it allows air to be sucked in across / under / round the carburettor plate causing problems as the engine gets up to temperature.
Anyone got any pictures / link to this plate?
Just reading some more stuff, split shafts are prone to throttle plate wear...Is this the plate that is referred to which connects to the smog pump or am I mixing up my plates....bear in mind I am not a mechanic and have just started getting my hands dirty

I've just ordered a 123Ignition unit from Southern Carb after discovering that I have a chinese made 009 distributor (I will keep this in the car as a backup). Maybe explains they the pickup isn't great at low revs (because I understand that the advance doesn't start to higher revs in the 009 curve). Pretty much every www porsche forum seems to agree that 009 aren't good for road use.

It has most of the bosch 356/912 adv curves available so I will report back when I get it and let you know how I get on.

:compress: Well, I picked Helga up from A&M Seditas the local Weber agent today.

They replaced the plugs, adjusted the timing, adjusted the throttle linkages, re-jetted, balanced and synchronised the carbs and..........................she is running like a wee sweetie. I'm well chuffed, especially as the bill was less than £90!

The only downside is that I have lost some of the induction noise due to the K&N type filters versus the Knecht's.

I'm sad to see the original Solex carbs removed from an originality perspective but as soon as I turn the key, I'm not sad anymore! :compress: :compress: :compress: :compress: :compress: :compress:

That sounds like quite a good price!

I was pleasantly surprised.

So much so that I am considering giving the wife's Abarth 500 to breath on!

Thanks, interesting kit. I guess the flat 4 filters would sound the same as the re-use the K&N elements. I really fancy having a crack at making up a set of adapter plates to fit my original Knechts to the Webers.
