This is very tempting.
SPEEDSTER CLINIC - PRESS RELEASE
NEW For 2014 – SPEEDSTER CLINIC 356 A COUPE
Warwickshire based SPEEDSTER CLINIC have an enviable reputation as builders of one of the best Porsche Speedster recreations. For over twenty years proprietor
Gary Blundell has led a small team devoted to celebrating
Porsche's iconic 356. For 2014 Speedster Clinic are now gearing up to produce an exciting new 356 A Coupe alongside their well established Speedsters.
The open top Speedster has long been a favorite of those seeking fun filled retro styled motoring. Using the humble VW Beetle as a base the Speedster was perhaps the most obvious and easiest of the 356 models to recreate and it has always found a ready market. Yet scroll back to the 1950's and you’ll find that whilst film stars and celebrities were attracted by the original Speedster, it was the Coupe that had the greatest impact among serious discerning motorists of the time. The little Coupes were the car of choice for racing drivers of the time. A whole generation of US visitors to Europe had their motoring horizons changed by the capabilities and responsiveness of the 356. No other car offered the same level of driver engagement and driver reward as the 356 Coupe. Despite its modest engine size it was more than a match for the big engine massively expensive GT's of the time. Combining simplicity and style, lightweight yet robust, it was a worthy Grand Tourer.
Speedster Clinic promise a recreation that will allow builders to capture the style, spirit and dynamic qualities of the original.
Gary has invested heavily in the new project. Not just, as you would expect, in the painstaking creation of flawless moulds and carefully thought out panel-work, but also in new
equipment and facilities to allow them to produce the body and their own distinctive chassis to high standards. Alongside this investment the Speedster Clinic team have worked with selected suppliers across the world to be able to offer Coupe builders an unrivaled range of components to make their Coupe just as they want it.
With its weather tight Coupe body, and a high level of practicality, Gary reckons his customers will use the Coupes in a different way from the Speedsters. After all, these are cars that can survive all weathers, with efficient heating and demisting and all the essential creature comforts we would expect. Speedsters are great for the sunny day and to turn head at shows and events of all kinds, but the Coupe could be a genuine all year round treat. Speedster Clinic expect their Coupes will clock up more miles, and experience more challenging use, than the sleek Speedsters. Gary speaks of having to reexamine every aspect of the engineering and production process to ensure that their new Coupes are up for these new challenges.
Central to the concept of Speedster Clinic’s Coupe is their own purpose built chassis which does away with the many compromises that sometimes gave the replica industry such a poor reputation. With new bulkheads, floor pans and carefully designed sill sections appropriate levels of stiffness, and occupant protection can be ensured. However it is the less immediately noticeable benefits such as a properly engineered heating system, a range of seat adjustment and positioning that can accommodate all shapes and sizes, that they hope will mark out their product form their rivals.
The Speedster Clinic Coupe comes in two different body packages to complement their range of chassis options. This allows customers to tailor the build to their level of skill, time and resources with help from Gary always on hand.
