356B T6
356B T6
Hi,
I am looking at one car described as a 1962 356B 1600S T5 but the chassis number indicates its a T6B. The engine is a 1600S from a 1960 car according to the online databases. Photos show the car with the rounded bonnet end of a T5....what could explain this?
Thanks
Jonathan

Or even a photo of the front of the car.
T5 and T6 are VERY different there.
T5s were built from around September 59 to August 61. T6s from September 61 to August '63.

Mmm. I wonder.

Could this be the car to which you refer? Transition model?
Also, wasn't this for sale on car and classic last year, in scotland as a non runner for £21k?

It doesn't matter if you speak your mind, because those that matter don't mind and those that mind don't matter.......!
Lusting after a 30/98, will settle for a 23/60.

Hi, yes it is that car. It's a shame as it's a nice solid car that's had a lot spent on it to recommission it and it looks very nice in the metal and drives nicely. But the numbers are a bit of a mystery. It has a T5 body, T6 chassis number and is a 1962 on the V5. No certificate of authenticity as yet. I am sure it will sell as it presents very well but I couldn't get over the question about the numbers so am still looking.

Re: 356B T6
My best guess would be that somebody used the front half of a t-5 to repair a t-6.
In the '70's these were cheap cars and people did strange things.
Only heaven only knows what they did with the mfg. plate containing the chassis number, and the number stamped into the metal below the gas tank!
I'm not familiar with the a V5, but I assume that a physical check is made to confirm the chassis number on the mfg. plate prior to issuing a V5.
The only answer may be on the COA, and if not answered, this will always smell a bit fishy. TLC

That's a very romantic notion, but the whole car appears to be T5.TLC356 wrote:My best guess would be that somebody used the front half of a t-5 to repair a t-6.

There was a cabriolet at roger brays last year, T6 body with a T5 id. BUT there was also documentation to confirm purchase of a new body from Porsche and it was all recorded on the COA.
You can understand a newer body, but an older one? As was said earlier, no COA but this is needed to confirm the idea of a transition model. It would also settle the 10% sunroof premium.
Dealers, don't you just love 'em.......

Re: 356B T6
If it really is the car that was for sale in Scotland last year, then I wonder if the nose is still full of filler?
