If they'll fit a G50 gear lever in a 3.2 Carrera - I'd like one please.

Thank you

I can't see there being any problem with the fit. I removed the original black gearknob and left the corrugated collar on the shaft. Using my vernier calipers I found the narrowest part of the ridges to be 17.5mm, which is what they've been turned out to. My plan is to use a little epoxy inside the knob and use a rubber mallet to put it in place over the collar. I'll have to look into whether the G50 cars have the same size gearstick and arrangement. If anyone has a G50 car with an easily removable aftermarket gearknob and doesn't mind doing some measurements for me that'd be great. If not I'll have a trawl of the internet to see what I can turn up.

Paypal won't be a problem. I don't have much of a margin in these at this price so I'll need to find out what their fees are and add them to the cost, but I can't imagine it'd bump it to more than £55 though.

The list of interested people so far is;

Roddavies
grannysmith
wysri9
Nick Moss x2
Tp81
Tony
mrk
silverfox
Reza
40 scout
carsten x2
sng45
sanjay x2
stwannabe

17 accounted for so far. I don't mind more names joining the list after the 18 are reserved as long as those people realise that I'll only be able to supply should someone drop out. If they prove really popular I could organise another run.

Cheers,

Brewster.

That's 18. I'm home towards the end of next week. I'll post up more detailed photos of them and the fit over the weekend of the 7th September. If everyone on the list is still interested then I'll start taking payment for delivery the week of Monday 9th September.

Cheers,

Brewster.

So they've turned up and I have returned home;

They are all fantastic quality. Any variation in colour your seeing is light reflecting off the graining in the wood. I'm going to have a go at fitting tomorrow and I'll take some more photos.

What dims do you want for a G50 stick. I already have a similar knob fitted to my G50.

I found a random fitting out of my parts collection, I think it was off a oil breather kit. Basically its an externally threaded tube that screws into the base of the knob. But first its fitted over the gear stick shaft so with is then locked into place with the existing hex bolt. You then screw the knob down into the fitting works a treat.

I'll need to get some pictures so you can see what I mean.

See the screw fittings in the middle, it's one of them slightly cut down. The outer thread bites nicely into the know, whilst the hollow centre fits perfectly over the shaft then allows the hex bolt to secure it. So you fit the hollow bolt to the shaft first then screw the knob onto it.

Just an update. The holes on these are a fraction of a millimetre too small, so I have ordered a tool to open them out slightly. With a bit of luck they'll be ready to go by the end of the week.

Nige, thanks for the kind offer. I'm looking to find out the diameter of the crush tube on the gearstick under the original knob. On my SC it's between 17.5mm in the narrowest part of the grooves, up to just over 18mm on the wider part.

This is the first one dry fitted. After opening the hole a little they are still an interference fit;

Image

Looks and feels great. The original knob is 44.5mm in diameter and these are 48mm. The hole has been opened up to 18mm and is now a perfect interference fit for the crush tube under the original knob. I've been told it's possible to remove the original gear knob with brute force sometimes, but I had to cut mine to remove it. Please bear this in mind when purchasing. Replacement original knobs are available from Porsche.

I'm going to remove this one, cut down the length of the crush tube so it's not visible underneath when fitted and put this back with a little epoxy to ensure it doesn't come off. I'll PM everyone on the list to see if they're still interested.
