Here is a barn find that should be interesting to DDK members. Car ssuch as this do not come up for sale in this condition very often anymore. It is also rare nowadays to find any 1973 model too.
The bad bits
Older style repaint in silver
A few minor inconsequential rust blisters from standing in storage (minor). One 1in on top of rear rhd wing, bottom of 'B' post same side.
Possible front wing repair/damage. No inner wing damage so minor impact
Still in original USA large bumper specification
One door pocket trim bent (courtesy of customs clearance)
Drivers seat bead torn and sqab needs padding (gone soft)
Front bumper fog light broken (both removed)
Needs a service and tuning
Good bits
Sunny California blue plate car. It seems as if it has been dry for most of its existence. shipped from storage in Dallas this year.
Best original interior I have seen in a long time on a barn find car.
Almost perfect carpets, drivers heel wear minimal.
Lovely headliner, vinyl panels, pockets, seats, apart from aforementioned drivers seat and pocket
Original chassis, with no welding that I have found so far
Original floors under mats all in original condition
Conversion to Webers which with some tuning will raise the power to 165bhp.
Low mileage 86K believed genuine
Matching numbers (gearbox TBC)
Drives really strong, smooth gearbox, brakes straight and true
One of the best 1973 colours
Wheels just need black repaint, hardly any marks at all including spare
Untouched original condition under bonnet
Seams to bonnet, bootlid, and both doors really crisp and original
Leather steering wheel
'S' trim
Really nice door frames and rear quarter frames
All in all a lovely car with a great lightweight specification of non-sunroof and manual windows.
The car is for sale so let me know what you think it is worth to you. All duties and customs clearance fees have been paid and I can supply the car "as is" or alternatively UK registered with a full MOT, engine service and four new tyres if preferred or fully prepared in top condition.
If I were to do the later and because I have very high standards I will be offering the car at around £37,500. However I can sell at any stage of the process of improving the car from an "as is" condition or part thereof. There is no welding just detailing with a little paintwork. I suggest at the "as is" condition I would entertain offers in the mid to high twenties.
I am going to start next week on the car so if you would like a rewarding project at a reasonable price give me a call on 0208 643 0456.
