lights/gauge info?

Post by Airhead »

Right now that my '12 passed its MOT last week I can take pleasure in indulging in small talk such as what the instruments do! 8)

Does anyone have any info such as a scanned page from the drivers manual on what lights in the gauges mean? Mine is a 69 and I'd like to know where the oil, generator and handbrake lights are in particular.......not least so I can get them to work! My fuel gauge also seems a bit pessimistic (read half a tank the other day and I filled up and it should have read 3/4 judging by the amount I put in) and I can't actually find a light on the temperature gauge (should I trust too this after 5 years in storage?) which is annoying on the motorway at night! May have to look harder though, it is a bugger to get to!

My speedo is also very very twitchy below until you get to 60mph......I'd love to take this as an excuse to drive fast all the time but it can make regulating your speed to go through cameras pretty annpying. Also I've had past experience of this suggesting that the cable is about to snap :(

Cheers for any help you can give me.

(pics of the now roadworth beast to follow once I've finished with the polishing mop......its a bit of a rat!)

From the '69 912 Driver's Manual:

red arrow points to generator warning lamp

blue arrow points to the oil pressure warning lamp

tacho:

green arrows point to the indicator warning lamps

blue arrow points to the headlamp main beam warning lamp

speedo:

green arrow points to the 'sidelights on' warning lamp

As for your speedo, I would undo the speedo cable at the gauge end (easier said than done - you'll need to remove the heater blower motor to gain access) & put some oil down between thw inner & outer cables.

Wow......thanks for the prompt reply..........exactly what I was after :toothy7:

it would appear that only my generator light comes on when you turn the ignition to the first notch so I'm assuming the oil pressure warning light has something wrong with it then. Am I correct in also assuming that the large shaded segment below the oil temp gauge is a red handbrake warning light (again mine doesn't work at the moment) and the one below the fuel gauge is a white emtpy indicator?

You are of course right I guess lubricating the speedo cable is a good idea!

If the same as my '72T gauges, the bottom of the temp gauge contains the handbrake warning (and it flashes!), the bottom of the fuel the fuel low warning.
